Computer Swap

Hey I Got Some Spare Computers Kicken Around. My Silver Car Is A 79, But If I Put One Of My Spare 82 Computers And Harness', Do You Guys Think It Would Be More Power. Ive Driven A Couple 82's And The Engine Managment Seems To Be A Little Better. Im Wondering If Its The O2 Sensor, My 79 Doesnt Have It. Opinions Please

Good question. If you've got the time then why not. I mean pulling the old harness out takes what? Less than 10minutes including the time it takes to disconnect everything and actually pull it out. Then maybe 15 to put the new harness back in. Swapping the ECU's takes about 1.5 minutes including loosening and tightening the screws. Then making sure you have all the compatible parts like the right ignition module and what not thats different between the two years.

Plus the O2 sensor will provide better driveability as the engine can now moniter what its doing. As far as top end performance goes though, I doubt it will do much if anything. At WOT the computer doesnt take any input from the O2 so thats irrelevant.

It could just be they felt like they had more power simply because they had the different block and head in the 81+. Although I could imagine having the O2 sensor, and some of that other stuff probably wouldn't hurt it.

I Dont Know, It Just Seemed Smoother And More Resonsive. I Compared My Friends (now Mine) 82zx Mildly Modified To My Highly Modified 79zx Side By Side In A Good Ol' Fashioned Test. I Won But It Gave Me A Bit Of A Run.
