Datsun vers Pontiac

Datsun vers Pontiac
It's been tearing me apart ever since I got this damn pontiac back in the summer. The Fiero spun three of it's rod barrings and fubard the crank and cylinder walls. As ya'll know from a earlyer post called "sds" it has a 2.8l v6. Very heavy, nothin but cast iron. And a lawnmower engine makes more power. But a sbc 350 will bolt right to her izuzu 4speed muncie manual. Now a 350 in the back of a 2700pound car. Wow. But I still have my 76. 76 needs 3 floor pans. And other rust repair. The fiero = no rust. Spotless. I love my Z. But right now I am stuck between the two. The 76 I am willing to go with other engine option, from n\a l28e with f54 flattops, n42 dished pistion head(10:4 comp combo) and the standard bolt on parts. L28ET. 7mge, Jag 4.0L, sbc ford, or sbc chevy. So help me out ya'll.

Dude..Fubar, it's a no brainer. The Z instead of the Fiero. That is my thought on this. Hands down I would take the Z over a Fiero. Honestly, I think Fieros are piles of crap. I have heard so many nightmares about the problems, people have had with them. Even the wiring is garbage in them. I have known people, that have had their Fiero catch on fire, at stoplights. Because of bad wiring. No joke man, be careful. And if you are going to use the ECU, wiring and such. Go through it thoroughly, and maybe even reinsulate, or replace wiring. You think would be bad. That is my 2 cents.

also an sbc in a fiero = crap handling. the thing will try to wheel stand every time and with all the weight in the back the understeer will be horendous and if you do start to power over into an oversteer you'll never recover. its crap for balance.

in all honesty if you were coing to swap the engine in the fiero i would stick the 3.3lv6 from a old cutlass sierra or something. then you'll get a little more umpf and those engines last....they come out of the type of car where the engine will outlast the rest of the car.
i have herd of some people doin it.

Yeh I know. I want in somthin kind of soon. And the 76 needs a bit. Since I have no welder, floor pans are out of reach right this secound. But I have to admit, just a few mins ago, from a rollin start. I let her ride to 4700rpm before it started popin. And rode every gear to 4700 before shiftin. God I want a new engine for my 83. I rode next to a stock n\a 82 fully resto'ed and new longblock. I still out ran him till I ran out of rpm.

I've driven a fiero with an LS6 swapped into it and it was the craziest thing I have ever driven. Fast, nimble and loud!
Rod.

its a mid engine being behind the front cross member yes, but its still behind you there fore its in back. im speaking in relative to where you sit. technicatlities, all crap. point was though there isnt enough weight in the front for good traction

It's a RWD car... So, weight in the back will make it launch harder. Anyway, the original iron block/head combo on the Fiero weighs a ton and putting an LSx aluminum block/head pushrod V8 into it doesn't add that much more weight to the car. I'd be interested to see the weight distribution with the LSx vs. the stock motor.
But, then I'd have to actually own a Fiero and I just can't degrade myself that much to find out...

Did you think that someone on ZDriver would say "go with the Fiero" LOL You should find a car (maybe with a bad motor/ tranny) that is in good shape, and put your parts in it... I'll tell you, this is my 1st Z and I plan on getting a z32 2+2 for a D D... for now, this Z31 turbo is just a toy what I'll need to sell to make room for the next toy... LOL ... CAN the Fiero & drive a Z

I know I said the fiero would be hella fun to drive. But the reasion I asked is because I need something to drive. Here in hick town. You can buy a sbc like crack on the corner. And since I need to get into something. It's an option. No rust. All there. Jusr needs an engine. Vers the z, needs 3 floor pans, both door handles, ecu, most new wireing. Carpet. No centerconsole. And I have no welder. I must choose one. And then the rest must go.

I still got my ranger. But I let my pops drive it. I want to make somthin out of what I got already. Sepnt enough money on them. The only reasion I would go sbc is cause it bolts right to the fiero trans.

well i hate to get technical but if its an lsx derivative it's not s 350 it's a 346
over here the ls1 have a huge performance following as we had them in out locally prodeuced cars up until last year when we gor the ls2. I had a mate that just had a tune and a hairdryer attached and got 550rwhp not bad for a stock motor on 6psi.
However my opinion would be sell the fiero and use the money to put into the zed, including that motor. zed + ls motor = ****ing bad *** car
light = fast
motor further back then original cast iron 6 = great track car too
it's win win!!!!
