Have you tried raising your idle speed? It will idle fine when cold cause the air regulator lets extra air in. But as the engine warms and the regulator closes the engine might start suffocating. Hey, it's free to try so give that a try and see if it helps.

What would really hot exhaust mean? Would that be lean? I can get the car to rev up if I don't go full throttle but when it is full throttle it dies

also it idles just fine while it is hot but then will die after a long long time
Switching the two AFMs changed alot aboutu how the car would run
with the one i got at the junkyard it ran horribly even cold and wouldn't idle right and would just die, with the original one it was alot happier seeming and would idle just fine.

i was reading the AFM rebuild thing about how at full throttle the lean/rich mixture doesn't do anything because the flap is wide open, that seems to be the biggest problem my car has

anymore thoughts?

when it is at full throttle the exhaust seems to go crazy with almost a tearing sound

Have you checked the TPS? That might explain why it'll rev gradually but not if you mash it. You an easily test the TPS with a multimeter/ohmmeter.

Real quick - the IC ignition unit, out of the two wires that come out of the distributor (green and red) which one goes more towards the front of the car? I forgot when I took it off (ugghhh)

Before You Go Any Further!!

Check to make sure you spark plug wires are not crossed!!! It sounds like the same problem I was having when I got my 280zx, Hot exhaust, bogging and what not, I have a diagram under " 1982 L28E Firing order and Diagram, a post I put in here a little while back. Start with the small stuff and work your way up.

Alright, checked it all out and everything is just as your diagram showed, thought that was a good shot though, Thanks.

I still am not sure what this could be, I was driving along when I noticed it kinda bogging down when I added more gas, then the next day it was no bueno, so it wasn't like I had been working on it and had just put things back wrong... like I probably am doing now

does the fact that I was driving along when it happened give any red flags?
or that if I push the throttle in and out really fast alot it will rev up happily?

just adding more info, and anyone remember the which color goes where from my post earlier?

The coil out of a first gen 300ZX turbo is significantly more powerful than the stock coil in the 280ZX and you won't have to build a funky bracket to mount it.

msd coil uses a msd bracket that costs 5 bucks and mounts in the stock location with stock screws and holes
