exhaust
alright when i find a job i think the first thing i am gonna do is the exhaust on my car, the intake/exhaust gasket needs replacing and i have a leak which isnt fun in the winter but its not huge either....yet
gonna do headers and openup the pipe a little bit and a new muff but i got 2 questions:
#1 my catalytic converter is gone, there a nice shiny new pipe in its place. i did a ***** and grins emmisions test and it still passes (go fig) so i was wondering if i put a small glass pack in its place would it hurt my performance at all and would it help my popping sounds?
#2 will i see any decrease/increase in mpg's?
i am not sure what to get for a muff though, i want something decent but i dont want the car to sound like a pissed off bee when i drive arround town, quiet but not hurt performance is what i am after

i got a magnaflow muff(you have to get a round not oval design and magnaflow is about the only performance company that caries that and zx pipe sizes)... its got that strait thru design.... and it say magnaflow on the side... and it sounds goooood.... no rice sound at all
yeah its awesome

Is your car turbo? I had a test pipe and a straight through fart can on my 280zxt and it sounded good.
Just remember that na engines usually like some backpressure. 2.5" exhaust without a cat and 1 regular muffler will probably be your best bet for performance if you're na that is.

I would disagree. The exhaust note of the six cylnder L28 with a header and glasspack alone is something to be admired. Loud as hell, but its sounds beautiful. Its something about Nissans straight six that just has that alluring quality. A perfect blend between the 4 banger and small block tone range

yea i am not going to go stainless steel, regular pipe lasts a while is you live in places that dont use salt or isnt overly costal humid all the time.
but i am going to go with a short glasspack to fit into the cat area and a decent flowing muffler along with the headers, i'm guessing i am probally lookin at something arround $200 or so for a decent set up, theres a guy that does real good exhaust work for a good price so i am gonna go to him.

whoa whoa whoa. backpressure on N/A= no good! that shiet is 70's BS the less back pressure the better. dont confuse backpressure with tuning. i remember the huge sticky on exhuast on this forum along time ago explaining this, pretty sure lol
backpressure only good for powering turbo's

running straight exuast out the back. not cuz it souinds cool but cuz cat was clogged and muff was rusting out. we dont have smog checks here nor inspection so i see no point in fixing something that isnty broken, and no its niot too loud so its not the ricer bumble bee lol
just spliced in some new pipe

You mentioned the Cherry Bomb type ll. Can't find it. They have vortex, elite, pro and glass pack. Is type ll one of thoose I just listed?
Since I have to replce my muffler, I am looking for a muffler that will give my 280 n/a a great sound but not ricy or to loud.

Hey I`m running a glasspack on my 260 , mostly cause I needed to get the exhaust back and out from under the drivers seat, otherwise I would have no muffler at all.

I was going to say I've read a whole bunch of posts mentioning that on turbo cars the less restriction the better. I think there was a discussion about this on HybridZ with the wideband O2s saying that it also helps be less of an exhaust restriction for turbos by setting the sensor more downstream.
