I hav my back speakers in a bracket in front of the tail-lights and have the original rears running as fronts. this is hardly the best idea. i was thinking about getting spacers to mount speakers in the doors, something like they make for the 300zx ( http://www.courtesyparts.com/z32_audio.html ). the wires for the mirrors are there to follow back into the dash, it couldn't be to hard could it... i don't really know. I'm keen to hear some other ideas.

I have that and I can't really hear it. Go large if you do. You'll only hear the mid to low range as the highs will vanish into your pant legs and the carpet.
Go for the doors and buy those one inch spacers that space speakers outward. They mount onto the door and then your speakers set into them. They make them for 6 inch round and 6x9 speakers. 6x9s would be the best, so if you can custom fit those, go for if at all possible. I love the range of 6x9 speakers!

speakers
thanks guys that gives me something to think about. my other car is a grand national and you can get q-forms that replace the kick panels and you get really good sound from them. i was hoping they make them for 280zx's because i dont wont to cut if i dont have to.
thanks again

If you put splits in the under dash panels and had the tweeters on the dash it would solve the hi sound problem. I've heard u shouldn't really put 6x9s in doors though. did u hav to cut to mount the speakers on the under dash panels or are they just on the inside of them? i like the idea

I cut out the under dash panel. Only did it on the driver's side. I left the other far right speaker in place. I did place two small tweeters pointing upward in front of my gauges. That did help a lot. Still not a good full range of sound up front. I hear most of that from the rearward speakers. My sub is not in the car yet.

I have a 1983 280ZXT that I upgraded the stereo system 5 years ago in. The sound is unbelievable. I used Infinity speakers on all 8 pcs. Get good speakers. They are the key.
1) Disconnect the dash speakers and forget about them.
2) Install 2, 6" Woofer speakers above the floor deck, under the dash.
3) Install a corresponding tweeter on each side (I used the fuse box and ECU covers as mount spots).
4) Remove the stock speakers behind the seats and throw them far, far away. Replace with 2 Coaxial speakers into the mount area.
5) Connect the 4 front and 2 seat speakers to a 50w 4 channel amp.
6) Purchase from MSA or build a speaker box that will install along the rear panel for the taillights in the hatch. Make sure it has a base relief tube in the middle.
7) Install 2, 6x9 speakers in the speaker box.
8) Hook the rear speakers to another 50w, 2 channel amp.
9) The 2 amps easily fit in the storage compartments behind the seats.
11) Get a good receiver\CD player and enjoy.
10) The system is mostly stealth, so it will not be an easy target for theft.
Enjoy
