Fuel guage problem...

Fuel guage problem...
Ok, last night on the way to work, I lost the large part of the fuel guage. It was reading about 1/8 tank, as was the smaller guage, when all of the sudden it dropped to empty, but the smaller guage still worked. I have had problems with this guage jumping up and down slightly due to what appeared to be a ground problem, or so it looked to me like that. Anyways, what I need to know is if there is a connection I should check at the tank inlet, where the fuel sending unit is, and where is the ground is connected. I'm no electrical guru, but can manage if I know where to look. This does confirm my thought that the two guages worked independently, though...
Thanks for the help!

Ok, well I put a few bucks in today (paid tomorrow), and the guage worked some of the time and not some of the time. I did, however, find out via my FSM that the sending unit has a 2 wire connector on top of the tank. I'll check that tomorrow and see if it needs replacing. I'd still like to know how a 2 wire connection (1 of which is a ground) supplies power AND sends data to the guage. Anyways, I'm also baffled by why, if it's a 1 wire feed, the large needle would read differently than the small needle. I guess it would be in the guage itself, since I've had it apart before.
Anyways, hope this info serves some purpose, and I'd still appreciate any input on the subject...

IAM not sure if they work together or not ..are you sure its the sender and not the guage it self . i have and extra guage setup here if you want it you can have it....... if you pull it apart and take out the gas guage ... you can switch it with the one inside the set up you have now
