Fuel question...odd?
It's an 83 non-turbo. The previous owner put the fuel pump on a toggle switch. When I asked why, he said something about the ecu...dumb *** me ignored it and bought it anyway! So, of course, when I go to crank it, I have to flip the toggle switch on. Most of the time, it'll crank and run just as pretty as you please, but sometimes, like tonight, I flip the toggle switch on, crank it, and it runs like ****...I mean choppy and almost chokes out. I can push the gas to the floor and it just pours out black smoke and smells like it's getting way too much fuel. So, I can flip the fuel switch off and it'll idle pretty again until it runs out of fuel and i have to flip the switch back on. Anyways, I have to flip the switch about 20-30 times and it'll plain on out. Any ideas of what's going on? I'm thinking fpr, but I'm not certain. Thanks for any input

check fuel pump relays. the toggle switch may have been lazy man's way out of troubleshooting the fuel pump electrics. put a fuel gage in the fuel ring to check the fpr operation. as nismo says deoxit the contacts for afm and chts, check the tps also. never hurts to plug/unplug the connections to the ecu (check for corrosion while there)
