Gas tank 280zx

Well... you could always pay attention to the gas pump when you fill up. But I won't get preachy, other than a quick google search found this:

knowing the gallons it holds doesn't really help unless you drive until its empty.
Fill up, note your miles. Drive. Then fill up again. You'll know how many gallons you just put in and how many miles you drove. Divide those numbers.
My 350Z recently said I got 27.2 mpg on a tank using its onboard computer. I also used the above method to figure out how accurate that is. I calculated 27.9 mpg.

The '79-'83 coupes had 21 gallon tanks. The '79-'83 2 + 2's had 18 gallon tanks. But yeah...the proper way is to fill it up. And if you have a tripometer that works. Even better...but if not...just write down your mileage on your odometer. And then when you fill up. Which cost me $75 last night..ouch. Subtract your current mileage from the one you wrote down. And then divide.. how many gallons it took to fill it up. And that will give you your miles per gallon..

ok, so is it wierd that i get like 35-38 miles to the gallon on the highway and like 32 in the city? all i have done is a new exhaust (high flo cat and new muffler/pipe) and a k&n filter and cold air intake off of ebay. and when my gauge is at 1/8th of a tank, it takes about 14 gallons to fill it up...so 18 gallons sounds about right in a 1982 2+2

400 / 13.5 = 29.6mpg ... still a bit higher than normal. Were you driving @ 50mph?

2+2's with airdams rock!!!! its all in the aerodynamics of a 2+2 that cause it to get way better mpg that a coupe, add on a airdam from msa to that already PERFECT design and your running in the 30-35 mpg range!!!!
haha, silly slick top coupe owners with there "power to wait ratios" phssst!!!! all you need is two extra seats!!!!
im goning to have to say that mabe the calculation you mabe on the distance traveled is wrong... did you go by the odometer or maps?(both are crap) so use the intronets

ok sorry guys, i really tried to resize my signature, but f*ck photobucket...anywayyyyyyy, im sure the trip mileage was right, and only used around 3/4 of a tank, so i dunno...maybe the exhaust plus the intake on a stockkkk motor helped me out? or maybe the car gods love me

"About 400 miles and around 3/4 tank of gas" isn't the equation used for tracking milage.
Even with a perfectly running engine, the optimum gearing, and most efficent speeds, a 280ZX can't get more than 35mpg. 75mph or more is not efficent.
Or maybe your entire trip was downhill
