Hood stuck shut

When you pull the release for the hood latch you can hear some noise coming from the latch but there seems to be no resistance. I am guessing the cable popped out of place?

I had a similiar problem a couple years ago but my engine bay was completely empty with the exception of my block, so i just released it from the bottom. I can't do this now with my motor fully assembled.

So besides cutting my hood off what other options do I have?

Thank you,

Rob

Have you tried lifting on the hood (maybe from the vent) or pressing down on top of the latch to see if it's just stuck? If the cable is still attached, the hood might just need some assistance.

you could just take the hood off from the front and pull it tward you and it should clear or at least give you enough room to pop it...

btw where did you get that spoiler or how did you make it?

When my hood hinge broke, I remember after putting it all back together I didn't have the hinges aligned properly, and the hood was getting caught on something so I couldn't get it open. It would pop, but couldn't be lifted up without ruining the edge of the headlight bucket or something. So I had to go through the front and unbolt the hood from the hinges.

all you would have to do if that was the case was loosen the bolts not remove them so the hood could wobble. but like i said if the cable actually did snap then theres a predicament

The lever on the latch that is pulled by the cable can be pulled on with pliers. You would have to be under the car with your face near the exhaust manifold and reach up there. Sounds hard to do. I've never done it but have heard others say they opened the hood this way. You would probably want someone up above gently pulling on the hood to lift it as you move the lever.

I greatly appreciate all your help. I have been busy the last couple days but tomorrow morning I will try to see if Bleach's plan works.

I just realized how ridiculously large the picture in my sig is, I'll figure out how to fix that. As for the spoiler its just the regular BRE made for the S30. It bolts right on with no problems, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I'm hoping I can pop the latch because if I don’t figure it out by the end of the week I will be forced to cut my hood off !!! I have a Dyno appointment Saturday that I absolutely can not miss.

Also after I get it dyno tuned I will more then likely be putting it out for sale. Just curious if anyone might be interested or know someone who would be? I'm leaving for the Army and would prefer it go to a good home rather then sit in storage for the next 4+ years.

I'm certainly interested in buying it, but you didn't mention price or your location. That makes a huge difference.

Maybe my arms arent long enough but there is no way I will be able to reach the latch from underneath, what side of the engine bay did you reach through?

As for my location, yes I live in Maine and I am not sure about the price. If anyone is seriously interested PM me. I doubt I will be getting to many responses seeing as I live in Maine. So I will more then likely have to sell to some dumb local who doesn't even know what kind of car it is.

Damn, that's such a nice ZX to let it go to someone who doesn't even know what they have. I wish I could take it off your hands.

Its a nice car. I would not be able to pay what it is worth, especially considering shipping.

driver's side is the side you go for, by the exhaust.

I sure did, thanks.

Finally got the damn hood open. I couldn't get at it from below, probably because of my turbo setup. So i had to pop off a hood vent and have my friend with skinny *** arms pop off the bolts for the locking mecanism and open it that way.

Turns out the cable popped out of place.

I lubricated everything and devised a system to keep this from happening again. All is well now and I will be taking it to the dyno tomorrow.

I never actually got any dyno numbers. There was a leak in the front timing cover and it started leaking about 10 minutes into the dyno session. So if anyone wants it $4,000 or best offer.

Please make me an offer with what you think is reasonable, I need this gone fast. I'm leaving for the Army and after training I will be going straight to Spec Ops selection, so I will not be home for a couple years.

It has a leak in the front timing cover, and needs to be tuned. If you're seriously interested you need to realize that this car is not ready to be driven on the road. It starts up and drives but the current tune is too rough for the street.

I don't even remember what I have done to it but here’s what I have off the top of my head.

Megasquirt n Spark v3.0
LC1 Wideband (not fully installed)
Tial 38mm Wastegate (open dump)
3" turbo back exhaust
Holset HY35 turbo
NPR FMIC
HKS SSQV BOV
60mm Throttle body
550cc injectors
MSD fuel pump
billet fuel rail
Aeromotive FPR
Tockico springs and dampers
Eurethane bushing throughout entire car
Cusco strut bar
Limited Slip (fully gone through, all new seals)
513 wheels
Khumo Ecta's w/ 0 miles
Also has a bunch of new replacement parts like the altenator, oil pump etc..

I am sure I will remember the rest later so I will update this.

Thanks
Rob

I was going to suggest that if something had to be broken to go through one of the hood vents...looks like I got here to late...how about a mod of the vent so it can be easily opened in the case of a broken latch cable? A hinged vent perhaps...nice car by the way.
