What is this car worth?

it was rebuilt about 40K ago and he has the receipts for it
He says:
"its not as fast as it should be right now. Its running a little weird, and im working on it when i have time. Its nothing big but i just cant figure it out
well, it has a few mods: n42 intake, 67mm throttle body, new injectors, aluminum fuel rail, rr fpr, high flow cat, bosch bov,
um, it sounds like its missing and like its running on 4 cylinders, I just changed the 02 sensor and it ran fine, but then the next time i started it up, it ran crappy again, theres about 172K on there, so the engine was rebuilt at about 130-135 i think the timings off
it does it throughout the rpm range. I cant remember exactly what was done to it b/c i have the reciepts in the car. But there was a good amount of stuff and there s a remanufactured turbo on there at the same time of the rebuild."

when it comes to a79-83 280zx especially turbo cars i personally would rather a stock engine. the way the six is set up, it's sort of harder to modify( without creating other problems) than say a z32 or even an older carburater 240,260,or280. out of all the hopped up 280zx's i've seen i've probably only seen about 2 that were really done right. as in right i mean they didn't try to over heat in stop-n-go traffic. they were not irritable in lower gears or loose power in higher gears, or have an unpredictable power curve or have what is called "torque hop". there aren't as many ecu mods available for 280zx's; or at least reputable. the car your talking about, if the person which rebuilt the engine is not a very reputable Z car person. i would look for another car. remember, i said Z car person, not mechanic, there's a difference. most "good" mechanics are used to their 350 chevy where they're raised to beleive in engine rebuilding "bigger is better". with a 280zx that's quite incorrect. you go get an 82 or so 280zx and throw the biggest camshaft you can find in it and see what happens, it's rather funny. as far as what they're worth it depends on who you are asking. a bank would tell you they're not worth much. if i had the money and could find a 1983 280zx turbo, GLX package, white with maroon interior, 5-speed, t-top, 2-seater (please, no 2+2), in good shape. i would give $20,000 for it. that's me. matter of fact, and this may **** some people off but, between my 90 300zxtt and my 83 280zxna i much prefer driving the 280. the best thing to do is look trough the paper and trade magazines in your area to see what they're going for. also just to say, the 280zx's i saw that were modified really powerful yet still retained their drivability; both had stroker crank kits and been fitted with carburators. if you really want something fun and don't mind straying from total z car. get an older z and put you a v8 in it, chevy, ford, whatever. hey i know a guy that has a jaguar v12 in his 1976 280z. it's not that fast from light to light but you will beg him to slow down going down the highway. i'm sorry this is so long and hope it helps somehow. sorry also for all the miss spelled words. i haven't had any sleep for three days now. with that said i gotta go now. gotta get some sleep. thanks, justun ross
