How to put in new speakers
Hey, I just bought a used limited edition 280zx and I was looking to replace the old speakers and run some new speaker wire. I was wondering if there is any one who has done this in the past and if there are any suggestions. Dose anyone knows if you have to take the dash off to replace the speakers. I have herd that it is a real nightmare to take the dash off. Any help would be great.

Just to let you know that the dash is easy to pull off. Its just giting it back on. Well at least it was for me. I just put in a huge system in mine. As for the back speakers. i took out the black shroud that held the original speaker and droped in some 100watt Rockford Fosgate 6.5" 3-ways. I did no cuting. They just bolted right in. And yes there is room in the back for just 3 12" JL wo's. You wont have room for any thing else. Oh ya i have a 81 280zx 2+2. It was all rust but its coming alive. Thats if i downt raddle it to death.

i removed the glovebox, those side vents...and the steering wheel was off....yes it is more work BUT you have more clearance to remove the dash....(the side vents are only like 3 extra screws on each and man the glove box is so easy to remove.....steering wheel...well i removed it cuz im gettin a new one....

speaker help
speakers arent that hard to get to. the speakers posted on the dash arent that hard to get to. i have the exact same car and i replaced all of the stereo, speakers, speaker wires, and all that fun stuff! but when u take the ( i think 8) bolts for the dash, all u need is a screwdriver and an arm. hopefully u have both of them! haha. but if u are planning on rewiring the speaker wires, then have fun with the stock stereo. it is so much fun to try and match all of the colors lol. and no, autozone cant help you. all they have is the modern clips for the wires. u just need to find out which wire goes to what, and then u should be fine with that. for the speakers behind the seats, u shouldnt have a problem with those really. they come offf quickly and dont take too long to rewire. hopefully these have been helpfull tips

Hey gothic did you replace the factory stereo with a new cd deck. And if so do you know how to hard wire the power antenna to the new unit. I was told by some one at a car audio place that you have to change the polarity of the antenna and that it is a real big deal to do it.
Thanks Ryan
Thanks Ryan

no see you need power to the power antena thats waht hes talking about not the actual plug in that plugs into radio and that blue wire only works with ignition....when car is on the blue wire has power when its off no power....now he says antenna requires a change in polarity in order to operate....now i dunno if you need to step up or down voltage......

pull a "robert" if ur amps in the back (myne in the spair tire spot) just umm conect the red power wire to the amp 12 volt in. and when u turn on car antenna goes up w. power on of amp. eazy other wire is ground. i got my antenna for 39$ on ebay. and sold the stock one for 79$ as-is turns out stock one worked too. i just didnt have the connector so i didnt mess w/ it.

Reverse polarity -- hard to do??? I'm sure glad I did not ask.
I got a power antennae unit out of an 84 300zx in a junk yard. Basically it had four wires going into it. I brought it home and reasoned it would need power to raise -- It was easy to identify the gound -- it had a ring terminal. I breifly touch each of the remaining wires to a 12 hot until one of them offered to move the antannae. I found another wire when hot would lower the antennae.
I temp installed the unit and ran the "power antannae" wire from my Alpine head unit to the wire that raised the antannae.
Worked good -- all set -- woops when I turned off the key when listening to the radio the antannae would not come down.
One last change -- run the "power Down" wire from a battery hot source so it would remain hot whern the switch was turned off.
Been working 2 years now FLAWLESS.
My rear deck cover was trashed couldn't find a good one -- so I made one and turned it into a speaker mount Wadaya think??
Good luck

my 280zx has been in storage for 10 yrs, so the interior is in really good condition. car has low mileage and everything, i receive compliments on it all the time. i want to put a cd player in it, but still want to keep the look of the car stock. my friend gave me the idea of putting a cd player in the glove box or in the arm rest. i was thinking of buying some truck subs to fit behind the seats and running them through the cd player, without even touching the stock stereo. does this sound like a good idea, and if so, how could i go about doing it?
