If there is still Freon in the system, technically (and legally) you have to take it to an a/c shop and have the system evacuated.

Then, you disconnect, and remove.

If you are a certified a/c tech or have the evac equipment, you can do it at home. I'm just stating the laws... you could always "google" something like "R12 freon evac" or something like that and find the illegal home way. I won't mention it here.

I almost ripped out my dead AC system, glad I didn't because I have no interior and the inside of my Z gets really freaking hot! I retrofit it to use R-134a tho. was worth it!

Wow... Just because you're a drifter/racer/whatever, doesn't mean street practicality is supposed to go out the window. Losing the a/c won't net you anything except a really miserable summer.

If you want to go faster, gut your interior, save for a turbo motor swap, and invest in the suspension and tires. The a/c isn't even a drag on the engine, unless you're using it which even then isn't much. Much better to arrive in comfort than look like you've just completed a 10K race.

alright, without beatin this guy up. Modern boost controllers and waste gates virtually eliminate boost lag, and really. you do want light, but practical gutting for a car you want to still be street legal, you might as well get a nsx, supra, or kit car. the A/C won't hurt you. and will be really easy to fix. If the compressor won't kick on, its probably just the low pressure switch not letting it come on. LSD, suspension, breaks, and tourqe are what you want for drifting.
