Rebuild it! If anything you'll have a much better understanding of these engines and should be able to keep it going for longer in the future

Take apart the motor and see what needs to be replaced... THEN buy the appropriate parts.

If this is your first time digging into a motor, I suggest being supervised by a certified mechanic (if you want your motor to last more than a few minutes).

The l28e is no SBC. Much tighter tolerances and very different build. If you just had it redone I would take it back to the "mechanic" and I use that term loosely since I have found very few. Guys like Nismo are very hard to find. My sone just paid out $1700 and the car is worse now than when he had it done. Be very careful about who let work on your Z. They can be finicky and take much TLC which the average garage tech won't give. Sorry for the rant.

The smartest thing to do is replace everything that doesn't need to be replaced, and waste money? Yep... sounds smart.

Do you even know what's wrong w/ the motor??? At the moment, it sounds like you want to rebuild the entire motor due to a bad (poorly adjusted) lifter....

You'll be way further ahead if you skip the V8 mythology which doesn't apply to the straight six....

Do some reading over here first.
