I'm glad you made it back safely Shady, it was great talking to you at MSA. If can make it to Canada in July, I'll definitely hit you up. It all depends on work and the DAT exam prepping I have to do.

Hey,

I forgot to tell you guys...

When I got home from MSA Sunday night I parked my car in front of the house so I could move another car out of the driveway to clear a way into the garage for the Z.

I went in the house for a few minutes before heading out to pull the Z into the garage and noticed a long stream running down the hill behind it (The Z).

I popped the hood and found (Once again) that the top seam on the radiator had opened up like the Grand Canyon ( OK, maybe an exageration, but you get the picture).

So, I'm done messing with this NEW radiator. I'm just giong to get another NEW one and chuck this one.

I'm thinking though that I may have a restiction somewhere. It seems to only spring a leak after it's been run hard and parked... Like back pressure is building after shut off. I'll swap T-Stats again while I'm at it to be sure.

Anyway, she got me home before calling it quits.

Rod.

I think we'll just have to get you all excited about it like you were this year and it will be like shady VS nismopick Version 2.0...

Hey RodM
(nice ride.btw) maybe something as simple as a faulty radiator cap? I realize the damage is done and yer replacing the rad. BUT, if the cap IS the culprit...it will toss another rad ! cheap insurance. and I've seen em fail. there IS in fact more heat produced after shut down. the heat soak is tremendus! ( this is why some race cars, continue to run an elec. water pump for several minutes after shutdown.)...
sidenote... not just a new cap......a CORRECT for YOUR application pressure cap. meaning, taking into consideration whatever modifications you may have made. if the cap pressure is too high, it will pop parts (rad,..hose..etc). if it is too low, it will appear to overheat and "purge" more often into the resevior (sp),neither is good. talk it over with a trusted supplier/rod shop, whomever. (HINT..someone here know?)

Hey guys (and Zhag...heh, heh...) I'll probably be making the next one in '08. I know I don't post much on here anymore, but I'm going to make a concerted effort to reconnect on here.

It doesn't seem to be as juvenile as it used to be a few months ago.

hey bc240z, b4 rod tears you a new one (cause he will) he used to own and run a great mechanics shop, and in fact is a mechanic. your statement is exactly true, and i, as a mechanic have seen it happen all because of a stupid 7 dollar part. rod just has bad luck with this stuff!

Nah... I'm the "Kinder/Gentler" Rod these day's.

I actually appreciated his post, because not only was it dead on... But when Bob79280ZX reads it, he'll quit freaking arguing with me over the exact same point.

Indeed, the cap I have on there may be the culprit (after the fact anyways).

After I had the belts fly off a while back and open up the top seam, it's never been the same. I removed the radiator and took it in to be resealed, but I think it was just too weakened by the violence of splitting the first time.

Every now and then, I would see coolant around the ridge at the top seam and assume it was the cap leaking under pressure... So I got a new cap.

Since putting on the new cap, it's not only gotten a lot worse, but now there's no doubt where its leaking from.

It was probably the seam all along. I forced its hand by putting a fresh new cap on there.

Mr. Bob put a 16LB cap on his and I told him it was no bueno... I now wonder why he blew a hole in his brand new timing cover seal after less than 2K miles...

Rod.

P.S.

Hey Shady...

I'm not really a mechanic, I just play one on TV. Besides, my day's in the auto repair industry are blissfully behind me
