I need a help with a VIN number of Datsun 280ZX

Hi guys, 1 month ago i bought a Datsun 280ZX 1980. I am from Bulgaria and now i am trying to make a first registration, but without success.
I won an Ebay-auction for the car and my brother in-a-law paid it to the owner. In the registering certificate the VIN is HGS130-950093, but stamped number on the dash panel is HGS130U0950093, the same is stamped in the car identifications plate.
I dont know in other countries but in my land Bulgaria is a problem when the certificate and the car has not the same VIN.
Please is it posiible to check someone which VIN is right and to advise me how i can resolve the problem.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Regards from Bulgaria
Martin

It sounds like this was caused by a clerical error on the part of the Department of Motor Vehicles when the last owner had the title transferred.

No idea about your local laws, but the easiest way may be to ask the previous owner to have the a new title issued, making sure that the new one has the correct VIN on it. Is it possible / practical to establish communication with the previous owner?

Thank you for your answer, i think too that the error is in the paper, but is it possible so many years nobody not to make a problem to the owners, that the paper is invalid by MOT or other instance in England?
I paid and checked the VIN in https://www.carcheckuk.co.uk and they have in the system the VIn who is in the document and not of the plate.
My brother in-a-law who live in England and paid the car is the documentary owner of the car and he will try to change the certificate by DVLA.
Is it possible to check the VIN by Nissan or somebody to agree that is valid this VIN HGS130U0950093 and the other is invalid

It was registered wrong. You'll have to get the paper work fixed. Had the same thing happen to me when I imported my NA S130. It was JN1HZ045S9DY****** when it should have been JN1HZ045S9DX****** . I had to get a new title from the state of Washington from the original owner with the correct VIN. Funny thing was I went through USA customs and they never checked and Canada customs checked but never noticed the error. It was the mechanic who caught the error when I had the vehicle inspected.

It's pretty obvious the VIN on the car is correct and it's simply been written down and registered incorrectly. My car lived happily in the USA for 28 years with the wrong VIN as did yours. You'll have to find out what procedures in Bulgaria are required to make the correction. It's different everywhere....

in bulgaria is possible $100 bill (or equivalent in local currency) to official can correct the error. works in a lot of smaller countries.

You're obviously an experienced world traveler so I'll try not to sound naive with my response.

Unfortunately, what's usually not shown in those cool movies is that the penalty for attempting to bribe a government official is SIGNIFICANTLY more severe than the slap on the wrist white collar prison you would be sentenced too for trying that in the US.
