Not much you can do to get Massive HP for a NA engine. There are no "chips" for the 280zx. Other than stroking your motor to a 3.1 the best increase would be headers, that will also help with your exhaust.

The best thing to do is to find a 280ZX Turbo and swap the motors with all the accessories and wiring harness intact.

Adding a turbo to the naturally aspirated version of these cars is a little more involved. You still have to come up with a turbo exhaust manifold, so you might as well just get the whole turbo engine to go with it.

Once you get a turbo motor in there, you can do a lot to improve the boost levels with the stock setup. I wouldn't go over about 230 crank hp with the stock fuel injectors or computer system.

At that point, you need to start spending a lot more money.

A wise man once told me, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to spend?"

If you really want more horses go with a CSB.

What the hell is a CSB? Do you mean an SBC?

LS1 is the only way to go. No distributor to interfere with the firewall.

Do you want to go fast for a short distance or long distance? Do you want to be quick off the line or top end? If you want to go fast from light to light (road racing is not legal, wink wink) a turbo engine/5 speed/ and 4.11:1 gear will do that for you all day. Want loud exhaust, run an open header. What are you looking to race or why do you want to be quick/fast?

you COULD make a n/a fast, but it costs as much as the turbo motor, so its not really worth it, unless your like me and like a challenge!

Try these places also and see what they offer and build up your knowlege. Then you will be able to have a better idea what can be done or had for these cars.

I'm just gunna guestimate that you are 16 years old? Have you heard the term "RICER" before? It's not something you really want to be trying to acheve.

Flame-throwers don't make you go faster...
Cherry bomb exhaust belongs on old V8 trucks & Jeeps... Not Z's.
Yes... turbo = fast (if done correctly).

From my dealings with "Glasspacks" or "Cherry Bombs" and even Purple Horneys the shorter the Glasspack ect. the louder but the more popping and or backfireing sound, the longer the pack the deeper the tone but still loud and usually less popping and backfireing. I would say a 24" to 30" 2 1/2" in 3" out red "Glasspack" would do the job....mount it as close as you can to the header that you will also be wanting to purchase and run a 3" pipe after the pack to the rear and terminate the pipe with a 4" staight or angle cut Chrome tip (it will act as a megaphone) Trust me, it will be loud! Peace and chicken grease! Good luck.

I agree with most of that O wise one but a cherry bomb can be an effective muffler if set up properly. I have heard a pair, yes on a V8...yes a truck and they were simmilar to Flo's...a little different but good. But they were very long GlassPacks.

plus flame throwers are illigal if a cop sees you using one on the street at all they can take your car and impound it. They are only legal for shows and off road use. its not worth the hassle or the possible tickets and fines.

Depends on where you live, but yeah, they are generally frowned on.

If you're going to openly street race, uh... go away.

You wanna see REAL racing in a Z, go here:

that's the real question. Does this guy actually have money to have massive amounts of power in his car?
If he does, why didn't he just buy a 300ZX Twin Turbo to begin with? That would be a more trendy car for Fast and Fu...I mean, street racing. You can buy a lot of bolt-on parts to get massive power from them.

If you just bought a $1000 280ZX and you want to put $500-1000 into it to make it fast, I can suggest a few things that will add a total of 20whp and maybe 30 foot pounds of torque. You'll have a decently quick stop light to stop light racer that will blow past most any late model 4-cyl; even som turbos. (some weight reduction will help too)

give some info on your money situation

I assumed you would be doing all the work yourself. $1000 for parts isn't very much. If you did have to pay labor... well, a grand gets you practically nothing.

Tune up: new dizzy cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs, fuel filter, oxygen sensor, oil change.
Mild Cam .450 lift 270/280 duration
all new rocker arms for under the cam
K&N cone air filter
2.5" exhaust off the factory exhaust manifold
4.11 R200 rearend
15" light weight wheels
good tires. 205/60/15

That's about it. $1000 right there. Weight reduction next. Remove the A/C system, remove the crash bumpers and put the plastic covers back in place. you'll have to figure out how to mount them.
