ignition timing

hi i'm trying to check/set the timing on my 1980 280zx na but i cant find the notch in the pulley i tried feeling around the edges of it but at least part of it is covered by belts. I have started my car a couple times to see if it will relocate the mark to somewhere i can see but no luck. so i was wondering if you guys had any advice

Socket + ratchet + rotate by hand = find notch. Then mark it with white out:

Thanks that helped. I set the timing to 15 degrees, the sticker under the hood says 10 degrees so with 15 would i need to use high octane fuel? the engine is not pinging but i want to make sure.

15* is fine and you don't need high octane. Just remember to turn down the timing to about 5* when you take it in for the next emissions test.
