Injectors - Final

Alright guys, I've got the rail out once again. The two injectors that were leaking, were leaking from the hose. The one that was very slightly leaking had only a hint of gas on the upper o-ring. The injector that was leaking the most's upper o-ring was completely wet all the way around it, and I was able to easily pop the ring off the injectors, where as all the others were dry, and more sealed. What is your guys thoughts, is it possible that the seals just didn't seal as j has said? I'm planning to go ahead and try and get it all back in tonight, but I'm curious as to what you guys think.

So what is your guy's thoughts on this. Also while I was removing the power steering pump's tensioner one of the bolts dropped into the car(why do I have this luck) it didn't drop through. So what is the best way to go about trying to find this bolt?

To find a lost bolt... look. If it's lost... look for it.

I meant the upper o-ring for the injectors. The one that goes in the black plastic holder. I'd post pics, but I don't have a digital camera I'm just gonna go ahead, clean up the injectors a little, and throw new hose and seals on and put it back in. It really wasn't that big of a deal the second time around.

You need to check out my reply on the other injector post. The upper o-rings are not seals, they are merely used to hold the injector inside the plastic and/or aluminum housing. Changing them is ok, but don't expect them to make any difference in your fuel leak problem. It's either going to be the internal injector seal (not replaceable), or the hose.

I would get a magnet of some sorts and attatch it to something stiff yet flexable so you can get it around things, I have done this and it works well for the most part. Ace has some decent, Strong little magnets.

Yeah that is what I use when I need to. I have a telescopic one, and it works great for the most part.

Yes! Telescoping magnet is a great tool. I also have a long grabber claw for those non-magnetic pesky parts.

Alright, everything is back in. Car wills tart up, seems to idle fine and everything, only problem is it seems to take a slight bit longer to crank over the car than it used to? Is it just because of low fuel pressure? Either that or it could be the battery is kind of drained, and needs some time to get charged.

$83.99 per injector?! Victoria British has them listed for about $60 an injector. If in fact I do end up having to replace them all what would you guys recommend. Oh and the thing for it taking a bit longer to crank, could that be because I cranked it so much trying to make sure all the fuel pressure was relieved and that I drained the battery? When the battery's back to its old self it should fire up quicker, right?

a drained battery can definitely cause the car to start slower.

i pointed you(and every one else) to the 35$ injector's. Not the 84$ ones. Oh and for the whole belt tensiner, try busting one the bolts in half.

For that, I still have a box of bolts from my Z31. So most of the time I have extra bolts that are pretty much interchangeable. That link you posted goes to GP Sorensen $83.99 injectors.

hummm, that link works for me, and it shows 35$ every time i click it. Probly try selecting your car via home page of Advance autopart's, then try the link. it might show the 35$ one then. But i assure you. Advance autopart's has a injector for 280ZX non turbo for 35$ a pice

Man that's weird. I don't see $35 anywhere on this site. They show up as $83.99, but the same injectors are listed on Autozone's website for $41.99

Man this is bizarre. For some reason it shows:
Retail Price: $128.79
Our Price: $83.99
You Save: $44.80

when I use my zip code. So I used my friend's zipcode and it shows up as $35.94 this is weird. I even had my friend try it with my zipcode: 44143 and he got it to show up as $83.99, try it out if anyone wants to.

I put in a four digit zip & they priced me $35.94 too! That must mean they are REALLY trustworthy, and have a very acurate website!

It's definitely zip code related. I put in my CA zip and I get the $83.99 price. I put in my buddies house in Nevada and I get the $35.xx price on the exact same part #.

Looks like they've got some 'geographic' based pricing.

Time to find someone in a 'cheap' zip code to ship too and have them re-ship them to you for $6 ground...

PartsAmerica owns Shucks & Kragens. All three are nation wide chains so I doubt it's because they are unethical. It's most likely because they have to do something to 'comply' with something related to CARB...

Who knows...

Well after messing with it all and giving my car a good long drive. There is still a bit of fuel smell. The last time there was more because the hoses were leaking, but at least one of the injectors definitely appears to be leaking. So I'm gonna look into these injectors for $35.94 and see if it's possible to get them for that price and I'm just gonna go ahead and replace all of these injectors. I'd rather just buy them all and replace them rather than pull the fuel rail every few months or so when another injector decides to go bad.
