Intake choice

After I throw my head back in with the big cam (.460 / 245 Comp cam) and new fuel rail, I want to consider my stock intake manifold (81 280zx n/a).

Is there a better flowing (and tidier looking) stock manifold I can use for my application? Mods as of now are the cam, mild street port/polish, 240sx TB, 6-2-1 headers, pallnet fuel rail. Or am I best off getting a LoneWolf intake or similar performance manifold. Currently I have honed out my intake to match the TB but have done zero runner porting.

Stock Intake with better flwo is the N42 off of a 76 280Z. If you want after market. go with a lone wolf for 500-600$ and comes with matching fuel rail.

.510/300 is a big cam, but that's tough to keep at idle and requires high compression to make up for the duration overlap.

If I recall, .460 is barely bigger than stock.

I ran a .480 / 275 in my '80 280ZX ST2 car and kept it in the regional 'stock' class. High compression pistons at 10.3:1 with a valve job, header, port matching, 60mm TB and some light head work and it was a lot of fun on the street and track...

Errr. Let me correct. Cam is following:
.480 lift, .246 @ 0.05" duration (advertised .292) (Comp cams Magnum292S)

I'm new to cams as this is the first one I've put in a car (tired last nite, just typed down what my memory told me to).

If I keep building this engine up I'll probably grab a lonewolf intake and at the same time bore the bottom end with oversized pistons, rings etc.

hah!

thanks for the replies guys. I may indeed take the route of wreckeds mom, if she is cheaper than the lonewolf

schkiddn. Lonewolf will be good, I like the no bs look of it and the fat runners. Will give myself a couple months here to pay off the damn credit card and then consider it.

I got this from "www.zcarparts.com" and yes, I too like the Lone Wolf intake.

The stock 1982 N/A camshaft has a Lift(In/Ex): .289/.289 and a Duration (In/Ex): 219/219. We would not recommend using a camshaft higher than the stage 3 due to the fuel shortages that will accrue with the stock fuel system. The main differences between the different camshaft stages 1,2,3 is going to be the power band and the idle. The higher the camshaft stage is the higher the power band will be. The same goes for the idle as well. With the higher power band the camshaft idle with be more rough.

Stage I Cam Grind: 17030. Lift(In/Ex): .460/.460. Duration(In/Ex): 260/260. Characteristics: Moderate idle, good power 1500-5000 RPM.

Stage II Cam Grind: 17033. Lift(In/Ex): .480/.480. Duration(In/Ex): 274/274. Characteristics: Good idle, power range 2000-6000 RPM. Great slalom grind, works well with stock carbs or triple Webers.

Stage III Cam Grind: 17034. Lift(In/Ex): .460/.460. Duration(In/Ex): 270/280. Characteristics: Rougher idle, excellent performance. Pulls hard from 3000-6500 RPM.

Stage IV Cam Grind: 17036. Lift(In/Ex): .495/.495. Duration(In/Ex): 290/290. Characteristics: Rough idle. Midrange and top end power cam for well setup car. Drag or track racing.

Stage V Cam Grind: 17038. Lift(In/Ex): .560/.560. Duration(In/Ex): 300/300. Characteristics: Excellent road race power, 4000-8500 RPM.

Stage VI Cam Grind: 17039. Lift(In/Ex): .620/.624. Duration(In/Ex): 304/318. Characteristics: Competition only. Power from 4500 to 8500 RPM.
