at junk yard need parts help

Just wanted to ask. Will the engin from and older 300z drop right in my 1983 280zx? The engin in the 300z is the 3000 v6.

With time and money (&blood) it will fit, but it does NOT directly drop in.

Ok, I have been doing a lot of searching and what it is that I have found is the L28ET is maxing out at 600hp and my friend would like to produce more than 600hp. What do you think would be easier and more cost efficient to swap in to this car? He wants to go ahead a rb or sr motor, I think he should go V8 all the way due to my familiarity with working on a V8 and the overall power and accessibility.

He can get over 600hp out of an Rb25 or an Rb26, but only if he has deep pockets. The Rb20 bolts right up, but trying to increase it's power by 300%, you may as well start off with an Rb26 (Which requires mounts, like the V8 as well)

http://mckinneymotorsports.com/ sells motor mount sets for the rb25 and the rb26, but they only sell them for the S30 Z series, not the S130, which is your 79'.

But if you can convince him to get a V8, do the mounts, wiring, etc. you'd be better off convincing him to sell me his car and to get him a Camaro/Mustang/GTO (Something with a V8 already in it), as you will know your way around that better, getting into something that is alien to the both of you, could either be an adventure, or a financial/relationship breaker

What exactly is he trying to do with this car? That much power and he needs to think about an entirely new driveline, differential, axels, suspension, etc.

Is he wanting to drag race it? Drift it? Road Race? Street Race? Just looking for bragging rights?

Has he or you ever built a 600+ hp car? I'm just trying to get an idea of your background, experience and goals so I can give you the best advice.

Cheers,
LWW

All of this is to improve at street racing. The mechanical abilities that I posses is experience rebuilding several engines from top to bottom. Right now on our team we have a 3000gt Vr4 pushing 450hp to the wheel, my friend is currently working on 3.3 stroker for that car. My friend with the 280 is looking for a low 11 second car, but not wanting to exceed $7000 to make that happen. The reason I suggest a v8 is because I have a connection to get an affordable good condition v8 and it would provide the power and speed he is looking for. My question to you is what is the best possible route to go? What engine swap or what modifications to the stock engine would allow for him to reach low 11 seconds and have sufficient power? He has his mind made up on this car and wants to do what he can to reach his goal of low 11's.

For low 11's you definitely don't need 600+ hp in one of these cars! I'm doing that on "medium" boost in my 240Z.

400 would do it as long as the total weight of the car + driver is 3000 lbs or less and you've got the right tires and suspension.

The easiest way to do that is an LS1 swap with an autotragic transmission and the right gears.

You'll need to upgrade the rear suspension as well.
