Locks Frozen

Locks Frozen
So after coming out of work, my locks were pretty much frozen. I could not get them open, luckily the hatch opened and I was able to crawl through that to get to the driver's seat. Even when I got home I still couldn't get the driver's side door open. The inside part was really stuck, then I went outside and just moved the key a little while until eventually it unlocked. Is it the locks are so old they freeze over or get stuck, or I wonder if there's like a leak that causes water to get to the lock and freeze it?

Whad you drive through a lake this afternoon??? I never had that prob on my Z (back in the day when I did drive it in the cold), but I had an 84 Sentra in high school that would freeze up every night... after breaking two keys I decided to leave the car unlocked and not keep anything important in it.
They make lil keyhole heaters these days... or you could bring out the hair dryer if you are near an electrical outlet.

Naa, I didn't drive through a lake, which is weird why it froze up like that. I'm thinking I may just do the same thing, and leave it unlocked. I might take off the interior panel and leave it off for a day and see if the lock shows signs of wetness or frost.

living out in the country I don't have to worry about security in my driveway so I never lock my cars when I park them for the night. My biggest problem is door handles freezing, and the doors actually freezing to the rubber seals lol. I have to almost pry the doors open sometimes because of them being froze shut.

The locks on my ZX froze once. I came out from the house to go somewhere late at night durring the winter and couldnt open the car. Had to go get some hot water from inside the house and pour it down in to the door between the ruber and the glass and then drain it later. Almost bent my key when i first tried opening it too. . .

Water intrusion. I've had friends who had their entire door frozen shut because the weather stripping around it gets weak and allows water in. I've yet to have a door lock freeze, but I'd suggest wiping a thin coat of oil over all movable parts and squirt a few drops in the lock itself.

I usually stick the nozzle of WD-40 into the key hole and give it a quick squirt. I have to do this every time I wash my car in the winter (not my Z, my daily driver, same idea though). I also avoid setting my parking brake in the winter, lest that freeze up...
