Lost My Keys!!!
#2
Funny, I just mentioned this in another thread. If it's a 79 and has all the original locks, you can open it and start it with pretty much anything. It sucks, but it's true. That's how the bastards that stole my 280ZX did it. They just used another old Nissan key or something of similar size and shape. I can open and start my 280 with the keys from my 300... but not the other way around. Anyway, I hope you find your keys just the same.

Check For One Of Those Magnetic Key Holders Under The Car Or In/on The Bumper Reinforcment. I Found The Original Never Been Used Keys For Mine When I Did The Resto. Nissan Cant Do Much Anymore As Far As Vin Matching, I Tried, Its Almost Impossible. The Complete Lockset Cost About 250 Bucks Though.

I still have the "key" they used to steal my Z if you want it. Ive used it on Z's in the wrecking yards and it works every time. I dont know about the doors, but it works on the ignition for sure.

Or just find another ignition. It is held on to the column with a couple little bolts. Un screw the plastic cover and then unbolt it, un do the wires, there is a litlle conection for that two. Re attach it and plug in the wires and it should start right up.

I can start either of my Z's with the original Nissan keys for either car. But if I try to use my Ace hardware copy I can only open the doors and not turn the ignition of either car. And it was made from the original key Of course none of the keys I have for my cars would unlock the damn gas caps Had to use a screwdriver and hammer for that And speaking of spare keys, I took off my bumper support to straighten it out and found a spare in one of those magnetic boxes stuck to the inside of it.

I have 3 keys for my 280ZX. One of them opens both doors, and the hatch, and will start the car but won't open the gas cap. Another one will open the drivers door and the hatch and start the car, but won't open the gas cap. The third will open the gas cap and the passenger door and start the car, but it won't open the hatch or the drivers door...LAME

That's strange, cause on mine, the gas cap key is "reversed"...

My key is mirrored so the key can go in either way on any lock and work fine. I had my original gas cap with a key that opened everything... up untill I lost the gas cap in 2002. very sad. Now I have a different key for the gas cap I bought used...
