my car won't start!!!
#26
I'M LOST!!!!!! So the car has been sitting 2 days now with a spark plug wire off of the spark plug. I broke the insulator trying to get it off. This morning I change it out and then I checked to see if I was getting spark. When I turned the key on the fuel pump came on and primed. Well I turned it over and about the 2 turn over the spark plug sparked. Then it tried to start but didn't. So I put the spark plug in and then got back in and the fuel pump came on and she started right up. I just about jumped for joy for my baby started. I got out and she sounded real good. After about a minute she dies. I get back in and the fuel pump didn't come back on and she won't start now? I think God hates me or something. What do y'all think is wrong?

I checked that a few days ago and no it wasn't. I unplugged it and it wasn't. But it must be sometime because it came on??? I'm suspecting wires, or relay???

Swap the fuel pump relay with another (99% of the relays in the car are the same). If the fuel pump works with the new relay, and not with the old, shizam-pow! Replace the relay and done. If that doesn't fix it, grab your multi-meter and trace back the power wire for the fuel pump.
It could also be a dying ignition switch too.

No luck with the relays. Could it also be part of my EFI control unit? I looked at it and notice there are 2 wires black and green in a connector that aren't connected to anything in the group of wires by the EFI. There was also a thin black one with a white line that was in a connector but was apart and there isn't connection between the other part.

You can also jerry rig power from the battery to the fuel pump connector inside the car. If it works no problem then it's in between the plug and the battery - if not then its from the plug to/and/or the fuel pump.

How do your positive and neg batttery cables look?? Rember this car needs all 12 volts and no cheating. . . . . My 81 as a newby ran great flew around all day then BLAH . . . Honestly thought I blew the engine would coast start but had nothing but weird **** going on until my bud with a 2.00 tool found the cables were shot. . .

Also look under the kick panel these were expensive cars in the 80s and many have expensive 80s security alarms. . . . My 79 did and 8 had to disconnect the battery every time I went to start and it would kill the fuel pump. . . . . .

Yes. Get a meter. . . Check wires going to the fusable link box were they connect to the battery terminal. . . . Disconnect fuel lines at engine. Get a can an turn car on no fuel replace pump. . . . Weird car should at least kick over once with starting fluid?
