My new Z (twin of the Z I had in1990)

20 years ago in the summer of 1992 a slimmer younger 23 year old verion of me saw a white 280zx turbo 2+2 in the parking lot at work. I figured it was an automatic so I went to investigate & low and behold it was a 5spd. The holy grail of Z's in my circle I had a 79 2 seater at the time & 2 buddy's had 2+2 non turbo's. It was rusty but it was a turbo. So off I go to find (stalk)the owner of this car.
Later in the day I track down a girl in the training class & ask her if she likes it (My goal is to buy it but have to know how to go about it) She tells me she is done with it her Ex boyfiend gave it to her & it needs a new clutch & she does not want to spend the money.
This is great I know the turbo will bemine. So $800.00 later I was the proud owner of a rusty 83 280zx turbo 2+2 5spd. Z sheet metal was cheep back then so I bought a new hood fenders big black air dam & a tub of bondo. & painted it burgandy so that whe nit rusted again it the paint would match the rust.

Well I owed that car till 97 when I sold it with 250k on her for a 86 300zx turbo. But the 300 was short lived as was not reliable as the 280 & then I moved to german cars but always had a soft spot for the 280.

Well I found my Z Rust free one owner (62 years old now) down on North Carolina Just had it shipped up here to NJ & she is a twin of my old car without the rust.
1983 2+2 turbo with leather & stupid digital dash 144k needs a little love but a solid car.

Awesome buy! And welcome to ZDriver!

Nice car. I too have a soft spot for the 2+2. My first Z was an '81 2+2, two tone copper & rust.

Quick update Z has been running super strong put 1200 miles on it since I bought it & not one new issue & worked out all the old issues other then the A/C.

Think the next step will be Tokico spring & struts figure make it handle before I go more boost,

Anyway In the two months I have had it I have not seen one other S130 on the road here in NJ In fact I more people talk to me about it them my 83 911 or 71 Cutlass Hell I have cought 2 people taking pictures of it.

LOL.....I know the feeling! Not too many Zs here in Illinois either....and, yes, I've caught people taking pics of my ZX before too. They were teenagers...probably had no idea what it was....
