This is my progress...

WOW! these engines are really really easy to take out! I was expecting maybe a few hours. But 1.5-2 hours max and everything was out. Even my wiring harness. Engine bay is looking dirrrty

Pullin everything out is the easy part.

I just swapped the entire harness. I have all the wiring out of the 83 turbo car (and I mean ALL the wiring). So now I'm just swapping in all the wiring out of the turbo car into my 81. Everything except for the lighting harness. Plus it came with the standard push in type fuses as opposed to the round glass type fuses in my 81.

So you think you can get it up and running by 12 to go to this fat *** meet in concord? Christy just called and told me the the president of Zonc or some other Z club is having a HUGE meet at his house and is feeding everyone. I mean, cmon . . . .free food!!!!! But serisouly, good job man. That swap was pretty damn fast. Way to go

I am looking at my 79 wiring schmatic and it shows that i have 2 fuel pump relays? I dont really understand that? It said fuel pump relay(1) fuel pump relay (2). Where do i wirethe 83 turbo harness to? Im going off of http://www.strausz.us/zcar/turboswap/ and it sais the LR wire goes to fuel pump relay, but i dont know which one it is? also on the 83 harness i says hook the "Y" to ignition. What part?
JAKE I WILL TRY MY HARDEST BUT MOST LIKELY YES!

Actually The 79 Has 3 Fuel Pump Relays. The Y Is A Yellow Coming From Under The Dash That Starts The Car, Or Engages The Soliniod Actually. I Wonder What There Trying To Accomplish By That. Hey Darrellbuddy321, You Gonna Sell Me That Whaletail One Of These Days???

Alright this is what you have to do. Bare with me, this might be a little long winded.
There is a 6 prong connector:
There is a green wire that runs from the air regulator. This needs to go to the Fuel Pump relay (1)/Fuel pump. Just wire it in the same as the NA.
When you remove the EFI harness you'll need to rewire the temp gauge. Yellow wire in the Turbo harness.
There is a Black/White wire that runs from the EFI relay on the turbo car. This wire is also on the NA car, but I'm not sure of the color. Use the original wiring for this but make sure it gets to the Ignition module on the side of the turbo coil and also to the condensor leading to the distributor. Its basically the same as the NA but the IM is in a different location.
There is a Blue/red wire from the turbo harness. This runs to Fuel Pump relay (1). Again, I'm not sure if the coloring will be the same as the NA but this wire should already be running to the relay. Just splice it into the turbo harness.
There is also a blank space and a white wire. Dont worry about the white wire unless you're running AC. Then just wire it up the same as the NA.
There is also a 8 prong connector:
There is a Black wire that runs from the fuel pump modulator to the fuel pump. This replaces the original ground wire to the NA fuel pump. If you dont have the modulator then just retain the original ground wire and leave this wire out.
There are two Yellow/White wires. One goes to the Ignition module. This one needs to be wire up. The other goes to the speed sensor and I'm guessing you dont need this. I'm wiring mine to the turbo speed sensor anyways though. It's on the speedometer.
There are two yellow wires. There is a Yellow wire that goes to the ignition switch/starter circuit. This is what power up the ECU. IMPORTANT. There is also a yellow wire that goes to the AC relay. NO AC, no worries.
There is a Green/Blue wire that goes to the Neutral switch. If you diable the neutral switch then you dont need this.
Now there are two tricky wires on the turbo harness in this same connector. One is a shielding wire. Dont worry about this. The other is a black wire that runs to a body ground on the ECU side of the harness. The other side supposedly runs to the speed sensor as well. I'm guessing you can leave this wire out as well.
Thats it for wiring in the turbo harness to the NA harness. There are a couple wires that run to the fuse links but they just pop right into the fuse link box in place of the originals. The rest of the components should just plug right into the turbo ECU harness.
Get all that wired up and you should be golden. But after all that I'm glad I stuck with the entire turbo harness.

thanx, i start that up as soon as it stops raining!! Im lucky that i put my engine in when i did. This morning is started raining! The wiring that you tol me about, thats for a 82-83 right?
#46
yeah thats an 83. I'm swapping an 83 turbo and harness into my 81. So I'm working on my wiring right now too. I haven't pulled the wiring out of my 81 yet so I'm now contemplating just splicing the turbo harness into the existing 81 harness sans the EFI parts.

Well we missed ya but it was cool. Got a bunch of free stuff. Wine, diehard battery themed igloo cooler, chamois, 350Z 1/24 diecast and some car shampoo. Plus I was introduced to Jack, the owner of that sick *** black widebody Z32 convertable. . . oh man. You and me gotta go visit this guy and check that Z32 out in person. He's in the SF area so its real close to you.
Plus i see you made some progress on the harness? Make sure to bring her this way when you get up and running. Keep it up man.
