My project has begun

It's begun alright. I spent all day today doing bodywork and I still probably got a few days left of pounding and sanding to go before I can even think about getting her all one color. I got sent home from work today cussing my boss out, so I got a few hours headstart today. I got my hood pretty much all straightend out and the rust was only really light on the surface where the paint had come off. So I may just be able to keep my hood after all. The headlight bucket is destroyed though. It's completely seperated where it bolts on near the hood. I'm gonna try to fiberglass it, but I don't know if it'll work. I also had to pound area where the left hood hinge mounts, as that was also knocked severly out of place. I got sidemarkers shaved and am almost finished pounding out the fender that got smashed in the accident. All in all I accomplished quite a bit today and walked away with my fair share of blisters. Oh, I also managed to get the hatch all straightend out, and am fairly close to getting the part just under the taillight straight. But I may need to have it cut out and have a piece welded in. It was creased pretty bad and the metal is starting to deform from so much hammering. I still got a whole lot of sanding left to do, but I'll post some pics of my body work in the next couple of days.

If anyone has a left taillight for an 81(or just without the black stripes) they want to get rid of for next to nothing, I'd really appreciate it. Mine is completely obliterated. It's being held together by duct tape inside the car and taillight tape outside. And all the bulbs except for one are just dangling inside of it.

I'll keep you guys updated on Project Zspec as she progresses and I'll get some pics up here as soon as I finish something worth taking a picture of.

Oh and if you want to see her current state, theres a link in the www.zspecgarage.com thread in the chassis section. Or you can just type in the URL-----------------------------^

That way you can actually see what damage I'm talking about. It also explains where that damage came from.

More pounding and more sanding. Alot more. I got a little bit done today after work. But it looked like rain(even though its still like 90degrees) so I had to seal her up with some paint and call it a day and pack everything up. Not too much progress today, but she is starting to look a little better. I got the rear wiper shaved and almost completely blended, I shaved and blended the hole where the antenna went too. And I finished shaving the right rear side marker, so that makes both rears. I'll take some pics tomorrow of my handy work if it's not still raining. Didn't get anything done to the hood, fender or rear end though. Still looking for a taillight. Slow and steady with a healthy helping of patience.

Red, be gentle when you pull that light out for him. When they are exposed to moisture the plastic on the back of the light can become brittle and break easily. Also, don't try to seperate the lense from the backing, you will just ruin the light.
