New guy

Hi,

I'm new to the forums and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm Josh, and I drive a 1979 280zx with an intercooled L28ET and 4 speed manual.

I live in Starkville, MS. anyone around here, let me know.

Hello and welcome! Good to see you have a turbo. Too bad you put a 4-speed in there, but it probably had an automatic before...

Actually, I think it is the factory 4 speed. I have a 5 speed and R200 from an 82 that's going in soon.

Right now the car is gear limited on the top end...lol

Now that you mention it, I have seen on those information pages about gear ratios that the 1979 280ZX had a 4 or 5-speed manual and an auto. Although i've never really heard of a 4-speed in a 280ZX. It may have been very limited production early on in 1979. They wanted to clear out a few hundred 4-speeds left from the 1978 280Z!

The 1982 5-speed is the tallest geared 5-speed. You'll have a good setup with that transmission and a 3.9 rear.

oh, and the 280Z definatly had 4-speeds. In fact, 1977 was the first year that a 5-speed was even an option! You had to pay more for it though. A 4-speed was standard equipment in all 280Zs through their 1978 production.

1977 was also the first year Datsun trucks had a 5-speed as an option. Wouldn't ya know it, they used the exact same transmission in both!

They still do that with their lines...well at least they did. My '95 SE-V6 truck has a VG30E motor in it, but at a lower compression ratio that a 300ZX. The truck still goes like a bat outta hell!
