New Here, Looking at a Getting into a Datsun
Hey guys. I've been a nissan guy for awhile Driving a 240sx.
Car has come from zero to hero. I've blown so much money on it over the years (some of it wasted) you wouldnt even believe me if I told you....
Anyway, She's putting down 491.2 Wheel HP now In a fully built SR20DET (2.2 STroker) and going back onto the rollers with some race fuel and a new setup, hoping to crack 600 soon. (She made 680 with a previous setup)
Anyway, the reason I"m here. I've been batting around the idea of Swapping into a 280z for awhile now, And I'm looking for a bit more info.
I see RB guys swapping 280's all the time, So I know the SR shouldnt be much harder to swap. In fact I've seen one or two over the years... But It wouldn't be easy....
Hence the questions....
Here's a couple... What type of suspension are they running? Any chance of converting to indipendent multi-link? any swap kits out there? My 240 handles like its on rails, And I doin't want to swap to something that would be unable to attain the same Magnetic ability....
On that line, What's the max width you guys have run on wheels and tires? Right now I'm running 245/40R17's up front and 275/30R18's in the rear. Front are 17x8.5 and rears are 18x10 .. Id like to be able to keep the rears at least 10 inches. I barely fit the 275's on 10's under my 240 hatch's rear end... Lots of rolling and heat.. Hammering and repeat... But they fit. I bought +50mm fenders, but dont need them yet. I want to go to 305's in my endgame. Just for looks. and to **** off lambo guys... But that probably wont be an option on a 1970's car. I can accept tubbing. Especially If I have to build better suspension... So how's the 280 look under there?
Also what kind of Big brake options are available? anything on par with brembo BBK kits? right now I'm running Sentra Spec-v front brembo 4 pots with Hawk HP+ 350 Z pads, and R32 GTR Rear 2pots. I need to know If I'll be able to bring this car up to snuff to stop my power... I should have added Earlier, The car will be for road course/Autox/Non competition Drift and drag stuff.. But mostly Road course stuff...
Also, would any of you guys recomend the 240z over the 280z? I like the styling of the 280, but I like the weight of the 240z.... IS the 240 oinly lighter cause of the motor size? Would a swapped shell be pretty much the same.....
I'll let some of you guys answer and voice opinions, then I'll get more off my chest... Thanks in adavance guys, Hope to meet some knowledgeable cats...

Welcome to ZDriver!
Just to clarify... you are asking about the S30 280Z, not S130 280ZX? I ask because you posted this in the S130 280ZX section.
Anyway, as you probably now know from your 240sx: anything is possible with enough money. You just have to ask yourself if the cost is worth the work.
Suspension: Coil overs. Modern Motorsports & Techno Toy Tuning (T3) have lots of suspension parts for the S30 / S130.
Tire / Wheel width just depends on your choice of offset / backspacing, and use of fender flares.
Wilwood / Toyota S12 / Z32 brake upgrades are common.
240Z body is lighter than 280Z, & has the classier front turn signals & rear lights.

You can't beat modern technology. The suspension on a 30 or 40 year old cars is... well 30 or 40 years old... Guys are swaping in Z32/S13/S14 rear ends into the S130. Best tranny you can bolt up to an L series - a Z32 (requires a mounting kit).
It can all be done - how mad are your mod skills or how much $$ do you have to spend...
