new here need help 280 has no spark

hey everybody new here helping my bud with his 280zx turbo that doesnt spark there is no spark at the coil hes changed the ignition coil and checked the injector computer and everything seems fine also check the power at coil and its at 4 volts with a multi meter the i kept power prong at power coil ring and changed the ground prong to another ground like at suspension post and then it read normal voltage so i guess its not sparking cuz of bad ground but weve checked everything and it all seems to be hooked up right could there be anything else causing this and what would happen if i ran a better ground staright to the ignition coil thanks in advance

i have also heard of some kind of igniter is that the little plug thing located on the left side seperate from the coil ?? if so as i was cranking it if u move the plug on that thing it would spark but only if that plug was being moved

Welcome to Zdriver. Are you talking about the resistor, a little away from the coil? If so, maybe it still isn't grounded properly. Or maybe the resistor is bad. I don't know how different it is on a turbo. But maybe it will help. Good luck.

Replace it or better yet put in a GM one there cheaper and last longer.

Sorry for the misinformation. I don't even have that plug on my N/A. I still have things to learn about turbo Z's.

If moving it makes it spark, I wonder if maybe it is just a bad connection. check the wires condition and the contacts for being clean

is there a way that the distributor communicated with the coil and tells it when to spark maybe?

I had the same problem no spark on my 280z. I had a ground wire wrong on the transistor next to the fuse box. I looked at a tech manual to see how it should go but i am not sure if a zx is the same.
