No Point, just an obsevation
I was looking at several pics of S130's and I noticed something. In every front shot that I looked at the mirrors seem to not be on the same plane with each other. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but they were not. The passenger side mirror seems to be at a slightly different angle. I tried to tell my buddy (JBs280z) this and he thought I was messed up....then we took some closer looks at our cars. We noticed that the drivers side mirror housing is one molded piece and the passenger side is two pieces. Why would they do that...dunno.
We got out the measuring tapes to look for where the differences were using the drivers side mirror as the control. We found that the passenger mirror housing is turnend towards the door slightly on the horizontal plane and tilted away towards the ground slightly on the vertical plane. I have no idea why they would be build it this way....maybe the original design called for one mirror? We did come away with the same measurments on our cars, his being a 1980 2+2 and mine being a 1982 coupe. Anyone know why they would make the mirrors different, from the housing to the mounting angles?

That door lock timer must be part of your alarm system. There isn't even a factory power lock in the driver's door. As for the mirror, I assume the passenger side housing has a much different angle because of how the mirror must be angled much differently for the driver to see it properly. I guess if the housing were positioned the same as the driver's side, the mirror wouldn't be able to angle itself inside the housing as much.

My '82 did have the power locks, until the rod in the driver's side door came off. And I haven't felt like taking the door apart to fix it. If I unlocked the dirver side, the passenger side would unlock too. Also if I locked the driver side, the passenger side would also. As for the mirrors, I wondered why the passenger side was more angled. I figured it out on my own, after seeing bunches of S130's, and I concluded, it was for the driver's vision.

There are 2 diff versions of the 280zx...
The 79-81 & the 82-83
The 79-81 had a base model option that included (better said "excluded" these items) manual windows, no power steering, basic stereo, etc...
The 79-81 GL had all the basics...
The 82-83 was aimed at sport luxury & all came with: bumper/fender/door moldings, t-tops, voice warning box, power locks, turbo style NACA hood scoop, etc.

The 280zx auto lock is thus... Lock the drivers side, and the passenger side locks too. Unlocking is the same. If that isn't working, check the fuse & electronic lock box.

Actually, the "Door Lock Timer" is merely a power relay for the door lock servos that has a couple of functions, NONE of which have anything to do with "timing" or "auto locking". Below are diagrams of the basic circuit and the circuit schematic taken from the 82 ZXT FSM along with the troubleshooting procedures.
These cars did NOT come with an AUTO locking feature, other than the description listed in the illustrations above. Any dreams and aspirations of auto locking would have to be coming from some aftermarket device (aka alarm system) installed on the car.

Open the hatch and take a picture of the front seat orientation if you want to get alarmed.
You will see the seats both angle in toward the center of the car instead of being straight.
Has to do with the fact that they only latch on one side and the seats bend in time..........sometimes faster if you are heavy.

Actually, if you'll look under the seat, you might have to remove it to see it, there is supposed to be a wire that connects from one rail latch to the other (so that's what thats for ). So they DO, in "fact", latch on both sides, unless somebody screwed them up. The bending comes from the fact that the seat frames are CHEAP, plain and simple. You can bend them back in shape all you want to and they'll still distort...heavy or not.

a few years back I let my wife drive my car ONCE. thats all it took. somehow, she snapped my key in the driver door. I still haven't gotten it out. I have to lock my driver door from the inside (passenger seat). then get out and lock the passenger door.
reverse steps above to get into vehicle...

If you get new door locks, you can take your other locks off the car, take them into a locksmith and they can set them all to the new keys.
Don't forget your glove box lock! Don't ask me why I remember that one so well...

I was meaning the latch on the tilt not the seat rails.
This is why you find a pawl/lock mechanism on one side and a mere bolt on the other.
