oil thrower

oil thrower

is it installed cup out or cup in? goes on cranshaft, might have been installed improberly leading to front seal failure...need to know which is right.
cannot tell from drawing in fsm.

HERE'S THE DRAWING FROM FSM... PRETTY EASY TO TELL.

EDIT....

Technically you can remove it w/o any side effects. Jeff P actually advises to remove it on built motors, because at high rpm / hp, it can actually act as a wedge & loosen the crank bolt / pulley.

Ah... I think that's what Snw was meaning. The bottom in, top outward edge pointing out (towards the timing cover).

Pretty easy to tell in the pics......

im sorry, i mistook what you were referring to as teh cup side. lol, the side where the lip curls back in is the one that points toward the block. i got an L motor on the stand right now i can get a pic of if you bribe me enough lol

I got in now....thanks for imput and excellent pictures! makes it way easier for me.
my fsm has a smuge over oil thrower drawing, was confusing as hell.

was put in wrong 1st time...the "thrower" .got it right now....

This engine is why I like to have someone else to build for me. If they know they are going....


It can be a pita..working on this car. I have no problem understanding can do it...don't want to waste a lot of time
I got yards to mow....to pay for my vices and various habits..my other ****.

I dunno how else to put this... but the L-Series motor is about as simple as it gets. Obviously the first build will be an "experience" tho.

I get to rebuild my Metro motor this week... it's pretty simple too I guess, but no marks on the timing belt to make it dummy proof (like the bright links & dots on the L-Series timing components). I get to use liquid white-out.
