Ok, Rod, Here's the deal...

I trust your say-so, so I thought I'd run this by you, since you kinda know the deal already. I got the car running real good now, but when it gets warm, like in "running temp" (Half way almost, I am in
Arizona, after all...) it "stutters" a bit at 4k RPM. The best word for it is "surges" a bit maybe. Usually in the past, a new cap, rotor, and set of plugs would fix this, but this time not completely. I'm thinking of getting new wires since that's been awhile. Thinking about a new coil, but wanted to know what you think first...

Thanks a bunch!

Carl

This isn't exactly my best area of knowledge, but I've had personal experience with my Z that are similar. Really, it could be a lot of things. Ignition Module is a good place to start. Could also be the Distributor itself. More than likely, it's gonna be one of the two. The dizzy on these cars is notoriously suspect. Honestly, this question is better suited to Guys like lww, Bleach or JFairladyZ. I know a lot about this stuff, but not like them. Funny thing is, if it's a newer car... one with a lot of computerized crap (OBDII)... I am a diagnostic rain man most of the time. I'm just not entirely up to speed with some of the "old school" stuff... it's not fresh in my mind because It's never something I need to deal with at the shop really

Carl, Im assuming you're talking about the tube (or whatever) and not the vaccum advance, right?
Is that actually coming out of the intake boot? I haven't seen that before, but then I've never inspected an 82 either. As far as your problem goes, 4k is pretty high for a stutter. I'd check the items listed above. If those don't do the trick then try running your TPS through its rotation with an Ohmmeter hooked up and see if the signal is good all the way through. You might be hitting a "dead" spot. Another thing to check and this might sound a little lame but, check to make sure nothing is obstructing the accelerator linkage. I've seen this happen before. The car would cruise along and when the throttle got to a certain point the car would just surge. Finally figured out it was one of the wire or a hose (I can't remember exactly) getting caught on the throttle linkage causing it too hang up, then when it got free it would jump instead of moving smoothly. Just a suggestion.

Oh yeah is the stutter just real quick or does it stutter from 4k on?

It starts to "surge" up and down quickly from 4k on up (not severely, though) but if I stomp the gas, it doesn't really show up. Also, the pic I posted was in reference to the tube on the intake, and it was severely cracked, so I replaced it, but haven't yet had a chance to try it out yet....

Thanks for the input..
