ok tick tick tick..rebuild

so a couple weeks ago i started my engine after a stressful day at school and heard a small tick. So i drove it home and pulled the motor. Lots of slop back in forth in the cylinder walls. Tore it apart and found broken rings and the bearings worn to the gold in the bearing (deep down). Here are some pics. BTW: This counts as a Senior Project!!!!! for school that is.

i took my engine out and also found a seized up t25 from a 300zx under my hood?? uh oh how did that happen. well looks like i am getting a gt28r ASAP with big FMIC and installing megasquirt next time i put the motor in. Pistons and rods still look like brand new, even have the machined marks on the skirts and are clean... block in good, just need to hone the block cylinders, and polish the crank. NO DAMAGE TO THE CRANK, i can get away with a polish and OE sized bearings!!! yes!!!!
damn also found clogged oil squirters.. hmmmmm, bad jdm motor,,,bad!

pics are too large for this site, so here are the websites.

Better stand that crank upright ASAP! The quickest way to ruin a crank before it even goes into the car is to lay it flat like that. It'll put a bow in the crank. It's not enough to see but if you check the crank for runout after leaving it laying flat for a while (sometimes it doesn't take to long) it will show signs of bowing. Even a very small amount of runout can lead to bearing failure and crank seizure. Not good things.

And I got a question, why the Toyota pics? Nice car but uh, this is a 280zx forum

Reminds me of the insane rebuild we did on my friends' 20v 4AG hybrid engine. We did, of course, spoon it into a Hachi. 10,000 rpm never sounded so sweet off an open header.

He's a friend of 81 Black, so that's why he comes onto this site.

So what is a gt28r? Is that the 2.8L DOHC Supra engine? or another 4-cyl?

You just come home from school and 'pull the engine' like its no big deal. wish I had all the time in the world...

Uhh ... Bleach ... A GT28R is a Garrett turbocharger, with a ball-bearing center section. Very close to the GT28RS "Disco Potato" turbo, which I'm sure Mr. Hachi [grey_turboae86] is well aware of.

He's lucky this isn't the Z31 forums. They would have ran him out, but yea, how do you just come home and pull the engine like it's nothing? By the way one thing I'm still wondering is what do you guys use to pull the engine out of a car?

I'm sure that with a motor that small, and after you've done it a dozen times... it probably is just an afterschool project

I use one of those big orange things that says 2-ton on it. it has a large hydralic cylinder on it with a hook on one end. Works good to pull engines.

Actually, th 4-banger in my Datsun truck is pretty easy to remove in comparison to the Z. Everything just seems easier when the engine is 2/3 the size.

No. The crank journals will hold it in place. Otherwise, all those cars out on the street with cranks laying on their sides underneath the motor would be bent.

I have done it quite a few times, so its smooth like butta. just talked to my dad and he is sending 700 my way for the rebuild... this is gonna be one bad bitch when it gets done. and i post on a z forum because i have always have a special place in my heart for the z series nissan. I use an engine lift and a leveler. It works good and is VERY easy if you just take it off at the tranny. I usually take the tranny too, but i had to do it quick, and free space is lacking right now.
