P79 head removal check list and tension tool question

Decided to save my 1980 t top engine. It has a gasket failure. Now I'm automaticlly putting the head on my okuma mill. What is the max depth I can face? I heard .010 with out being stuck with shims. Also the max warpage tol is .006? So let's say warpage is .016 I shave .01 I should be good? Lastly the tension tool can I sub metal for wood being it would take 5 mins. To program and make on my master cam and crap do I have to remove the valves and lifters to face the head?

Time to crack open that trusty Haynes manual. It has all the specs in it (along w/ about 20 diff Datsun mod websites).

And the need for shims depends on the thickness of the head gasket... are you going to use a stock size? 1mm? 2mm?

Ok so they do sell different thickness gaskets. Yet again the idiots at napa steer me wrong . Like talking to hindu with broken engish um we sell a gasket for 18.90 or a set for 53.00. I asked what mil and got we sell a gasket for 18.53. lol guess the warpage will decide what thickness. Must be a local thing 4 local Nissan dealer parts guys were totally insulting. What's a good datsun web site. To order from hate to order wrong cheap parts or find out a person from Kenya drained my accounts lol.

Well the crappy Felpro gasket that all the parts stores carry will obviously only come in the stock size (I believe it's 1.25 or 1.30mm). If you want a 1mm or 2mm, you need to either buy an MLS headgasket from MSA (when available).

Or, hit up TheRamz to see if he will make you a stainless steel headgasket: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-260z-280z-performance-technical-124/boost-32761/

Also, shims are only needed when machining the head more than .080", using the stock head gasket. On an n/a, that will be great for compression, a turbo motor will probably need a 1.5 or 2.0mm thickness.

Ok great !!! I thought I had only maybe .008 to .011 of cut or risking a grand slam of the valve. It will raise compression but it will cut from the lower end but I really drive my z's insanely hard so top end boost suits me well.

Ill check around. car has 126 on the clock. so the engine is kinda worth the head gasket.

My 79 has almost 200k on the old 81 engine. How ever I bought this car from a child who thought since Dex cool antifreeze is orange it will make the car faster.

Why the gasket went. Should I look for any other major damage with the mixing of antifreeze's. No knocks I ran the car home with head gasket in the bottle held 85 90 mph on the interstate @ 2700 and pulls. I think its ok....
It is blowing oil from the oil filter though. And no smoke unless I shut it off and re-start I think it blew on the oil side? And water jacket both? no water in the oil a lil weird
