Painting the Z

My brother and I started the prep work for the painting of my Z this was it before i started

This is the dent i got from a kid a school that couldn't see my car haha

I decided to remove the front and rear bumper and the covers ready for the new body kit im going to get

I also chose to debadge it and take that nasty trim off the sides

Stripped the doors

Painted the Door Jams

Prepping the rear

My brother was doing some primer around the car in some bad spots and the metal glaze spots

Heres my favorite dent on the whole car from the previous owner

but nothing a bit of work couldn't fix

And more to come in a week

Very nice work! Did you repair the front fender that was hit yet? I didnt see any pics of it after. Nothing like spending some time working on a project with the bro.

Its alot of work but its going to be well worth it
The fender was replaced with one i found in a junkyard but it was a aftermarket one( kind of pissed me off thought) and doesn't fit the best so it took a bit to get it to fit properly but looks pretty good for what i paid for it
I might look for another one later on to see if i can find an original one that fits better

I barely had any spots of flaking which was good but we took a DA to the whole car to find bad spots. And reprimed the bad spots. Yeah its good having a brother that is a professional painter at a Dodge dealership also a paint booth at our house

Brother just finished the clear but since we didn't have enough patience to finish the booth off by putting doors up with filters we got a few bits of dirt in the clear, but will soon be buffed out
Here it is, for the age of the car and the price i paid for the paint and supplies(about 300 dollars) i think its a dang good job

Wow, that clear hides some severe sins..... It's amazing how the clear laid down and the color didn't.

Nice work! Man I wish I could start stripping down my '82. Hopefully sometime in the near future. Good job, and I don't particulary care for 2 + 2's. But kudos to you and your brother. Keep up the good work! Looks nice!

Makes me want to paint my Z! I got a lot of body work to do first @.@ Pulled out a bad seam and braze then bondo it, Media blast 90% of the car fix the frame rails, rust spots, replace a fender. Lotta work. To lazy to fix all that hence why my Z is multi colored XD

A little update

Out of the booth and getting it put back together finally ha and new door weatherstriping, new hatch weatherstriping and tail light weatherstriping being installed. It still needs a good wax and some 5% tint on the rear windows and hatch and 10 or 15% on the front windows

Now all i need to get is get a job and buy a MSA body kit for it
