I've read many things about the production date on 280zx's. I've read that the U.S. production dates start in 79 and the Japans were 78. I've also read that production of the 280zx began 7/78 but on mine it reads 6/78 could someone help clear this up for me?

I could be wrong but I don't believe any Zs were ever assembled in the US, if that's what you mean. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_S130 for starters and see where that leads you. Not sure about the Z32s or what's going on these days. I guess I would believe whatever date is stamped on the Z itself, in the VIN or on that door plate (Z31) - but whether I would trust it for the exact month (plus or minus 1 month?) is another matter.

I think most auto mfrs design and begin producing next year's models this year. June sounds a little early for production tho... Since the 280 was already on the road in Japan, they would have modified whatever they needed to change in order to sell it in the USA - and just start producing. The USA's '79 280ZX is Japan's '78 280ZX with minor mods.
