quick question

Ya know... those valves that suck air into the engine, and exhaust it out.
If you screw up the timing chain marks, yes, the valves can / will hit the pistons. If you have the low compression or turbo pistons (dished), the damage is less than flat tops.
Are you asking because you think you screwed up?

Huh?
Turned off? Did it make any noises? Did it re-start? Does it have power? Ya know... minor details you left out.
It would break the chain if it "jumped time".
So... what did that mechanic say? What was wrong?

It just turned off, and didn't want to restart. We moved the timing so it can restart and drove it home, rich as hell though but was able to drive home. I just bought the gear and chain and had a guy replace it for me since I didn't have the time to do so.

Maybe your dizzy moved on you. You have two locking nuts on it. One on the top and one on the bottom. If you were able to drive it home. I don't think you jumped time. Besides it is nearly impossible to do on a timing chain engine.
