reving issues

The other day my 1980 280zx over heated and ever since then it has been running bad. When i first start the car in the morning it runs all right and is able to rev up to 5000 easily but after the engine starts to warm up i start not being able to rev as high. With the engine completely warm i can only rev to 2,500ish. if i rev it up to that i'm not longer able to give it gas and it drops down to about 1,500 before i'm able to give it gas again. Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be?

Did the temp gauge max out? For how long was it driven while over heating? Did the radiator cap blow? Does it blow white smoke out the exhaust?

If you are lucky enough, you didn't toast your engine. Start with a check of the AFM, CHTS, and TPS.

The temp gauge dint max out but it was driven for two minutes nearing the max. The radiator cap didn't blow and there is no white smoke. How do i check those things you mentioned?
