S130 Headlight replacement...

Well I started my Silverstar swap....WHAT A PAIN IN THE ****!! I am not following the service manual anymore, well at least not for the lights. It was telling me to remove a whole bunch of crap to be able to remove the headlight buckets...you don't need to do that at all...it is three screws per light and you do it from inside the engine bay...for those of you who know this...WHERE WERE YOU AN HOUR AGO!!?? J/K anyway, I have one light done and I am getting ready to do the passenger light now, I needed a break. I am taking pics so you all can see the "real world difference" if any between regular and Silverstar lights. Be back in a few with the results...

Well here they are and I like them alot!!!
Just three screws, thats all, of course there are a few small things in the way like the overflow bottle on the passenger side...remove it and it's simple from there. The A/C line on the drivers side, bend it out of the way...good to go. 6 screws 15 minutes start to finish my way.

Yeah, I too found out the hard way that the manual gives BAD advice on removing the headlights!

I have the silverstars and I like them a lot.

I put the headlight covers on mostly because two weeks after putting in the silverstars, I had a big rock go right through one...

So what power bulbs do those Silverstars use? Just fitted a Hella H4 light kit to mine, 100w high beams

The Sylvania Silverstar H6024ST are 55/65watt, if they are "brighter" it is not by much but they make a huge difference on dark and dimly lit roads. I can see so much better and yes further down dark roads...with roads that have good lighting on them the Silverstars seem to disappear.

It's covered in the owners manual. Page 80 in the '82.

Chiltons has the info, not sure of the haynes. haynes and chiltons does cover things the service manual doesn't. I always get both the factory manual and the others.

If you don't do an H4 conversion, the Silverstar's are the way to go.

However, a good set of H4 lenses and bulbs will blow everything else away.

I use the Narva 100w/55w bulbs in my Cibie H4's.

The 55w low beams and 100w high beams are amazing when combined with the excellent glass in the Cibie headlamps.

Most people don't realize the quality of the lenses in the headlight is FAR more important than the wattage of the bulb itself.

If you really hate oncoming traffic, go for the 130w/100w bulbs. I'm not even sure these are legal in some states!

I don't have an owners manual...just the service manual.
