Well wow...what a blatant and rude tightarse thread starter. I will have you know...that I respect all types and generations of Z's. And everybody here knows that. And will back that up. For me....The 280zx...was my first sportscar..and first Z I ever owned. One of the main reasons...I love the bodystyle so much. And also the fact...after you take off the gawdy trim..smooth it out better. And put on the headlight covers. And some other minor changes. Minus putting on a bodykit. Which of course makes the car even better than it is to begin with. You have one tightarse and sweet ride.
Now one of my pet peeves..is when somebody comes on our 280zx forum. And starts putting down and bashing our cars. Now is that right? No it isn't..at least I don't think so. Do you see me....going to another Z forum and doing that rude stuff to another generation of Z? No I don't..I respect all Z owners of all types. Until they give me a reason not to give them respect.
And for the sake of S30's. I do want one..you bet. Because actually my first ride in a Z was in a 1973 240z. And right then and there I fell in love with Z cars. What is weird is..the fact I almost owned a '77 orange 280z 5-speed coupe. Back in '95. But considering I didn't have a steady job or money. I couldn't get it. And I really wanted it. But it wasn't meant to be at the time. I will have a first generation (S30) one day. But my love will always and forever be with the awesome and kickarse 280zx.
And I am a proud owner..that will get greasy and dirty. To keep my Z on the road. I enjoy driving my boy everyday. Despite all his problems and defects he has. I love him no less....he is a great and dependable car. Okay that is all...I wanted to get off my chest....Thank you everyone for listening..

I don't think he was necessarily putting down the 280ZX. It sounded like he was saying in his experience that all the 280ZX owners seem to be reluctant to do any work. That may be from some of the threads at HybridZ, where there are people who keep asking for help over and over and never do anything, but there are plenty of threads of people showcasing their work. I think he's the one who's got a 280ZX with a VG30 in it.

I have not been to Austrailia, therefore I must admit it may appear to
those of us who are a minority in numers (with a S130,, 2+2) that theres
more focus/attention given to 240/260/280 Zs.
When I was in my 30s, my 1972 240, 4-speed, made mre very happy,
even though it would not get to 5000-rpm on I-5 in Illinois. And you
have to love its excentrisites just like the 1st Ford model-As.
One thing the both in common is the phrase, "get out & get under"
as you always had to adjust something or lubricate it. And in winter
they are kissen cousins, hard to start even having a manual choke!
Yet The Biggest common both car owners have is their love for their
car....
I had a 72-240, a 76 280z, and now that I in the pink of life (65)
I have a nice 1983 280zx 2+2, non-turbo, auto (If I did not have
Parkinsons disase, I would have prefered the Turbo and 5-speed).
You want to add performance to the Z, well, 85 is pretty dam fast,
from my ancient age point, but a built a speedo and verified that
you can drive the S130 2+2 with Automatic up to- 102mph lmited
higher speeds due to wheel shimmy and condition of my Z.
I like and appreciate even the extreme Z owner, who has only the
body left as everything else was replaced with a non datsun perfor-
mance hardware.... Do you really have a Z or ?
Thats my 2 cents, and I am stcking with it...
I have yet to find a raceway here in wisconsin that will allow you to
speed test your car... if anyone in ZDriver knows of a course, please
add it to this thread as I will check back.
