Searching for 280ZX Sound Messages & Chimes
Hey,
I'm currently looking for all of the sounds and chimes that the 280ZX makes. (Like "left door is door open", "brake is on" etc.). I wanted to make a digital sound box for these with mp3's on there.
I was planning to make the plans and software for this sound box open for everyone interested.
Is there someone that has the recorded sounds or is able to record the sounds?
Greetings from NL, Europe.
Marinus

Welcome to ZDriver, Marinus!
'Sounds' like an interesting project. I have never seen anyone separate Bitchin' Betty's (that's her English slang nickname) from the gadget that puts her into the Zs. You might check out the factory service manuals for your Z and or the Z31s that keep Betty Bitchin.' They are at XenonS130 - S130 Reference and XenonZ31 Reference.
The electrical and mechanical diagrams in those manuals get better over the years and I bet you will find the module that contains Betty and feeds her breakfast every day. Maybe she will agree to be hooked up to your PC and downloaded...

Thanks, great to be here :-)
I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but I don't have a Z.. yet.. I am planning to do so (240z or 260z) and install a digital soundbox in there (which you can turn off ;-) ). I really need someone to record these, or I'll have to buy bitchin betty.

I don't know the schematics, but there are some options;
- For the best result, if betty uses a speaker, you could use an audio cable (Like a TRRS cable from Sparkfun; https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11580) to connect bettys audio output and use the mic or audio in of your laptop to record the sound. The recording itself can be done with some free and open source audio editing software called Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) .
-Record the sound with a cellphone, There are a lot of free audio recorders for android ( Like https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ndrwq.recorder )

I think (for the Z31s) Betty speaks through the driver's door speaker (by your left leg). Unless she has her own speaker - which I doubt. You could record it with a cell phone held in front of the speaker. But there might be some background noise since she doesn't give some of her warnings until the Z is moving forward. Must be a piece of wild circuitry involved since there are sensors for everything she warns you about. "Right door is open" "Left door is open" "Lights are on" "Fuel level is low" "Parking brake is on"
I would like to change her recordings to use foul language and call names. Betty should say: "Fuel level is low. You cheapskate, put some gas in the tank! What are you waiting for, the price to drop? How do you think I can keep running, on fumes? Get a friggin' grip, you bonehead! Get some fuel RIGHT NOW!"
