Where'd you get the other ecu? Out of the gold one? I guess it's possible that both ecu's have the same exact intermittent problems happen at the exact same time I mean seriously though, since you've used both ecu's and gotten mixed results I wouldn't point the finger in the same direction as Haynes would The simplest solution I can come up with is that either the ground for the ecu is breaking somewhere near or at it's mounting location or that the ECU wiring connector has some bad wiring somewhere at the connector. I'm gonna find that grounding spot tomorrow (unless someone already knows where it is) and then you can check that. If it's not the grounds then atleast you'll have narrowed it down even further. Not much left after that though other than a bad connection at the ECU.

Uhhh, Just a thought here guys, but why don't you use AIM or some other Instant Messenger program... not that I would want J's post count to suffer or anything. Seriously though, it seems like it would make this whole process alot easier on you both.

REALY THATs WHAT PISSING ME OFF ABOUT THIS ..... all the wireing in my car looks new ...my car only has 120000 miles on her mabe not even that.... it was at 112000 when i switched speedos ..and i have mabe put 5000 on it sence then ....all the connectors look new very clean and tight ....not even alot of dust under there ....the ecu wireing harnness is in great looking shape if you looked over it you would be like what the hell is going on ....this car looks new .....i will check that ground as soon as we find out where it is ...i cleaned up the two that are on the intake today and the one that is on the side of the air flow meter .... i also cleaned the starter connections and all the of alt's ....

it turned over like it was going to start this moring then the tach droped and now it's just crnking over like it aways does i am so sick of it ...well changing the alt didnt work ....j i need to know where that ground is....also witch wire do i check on the igition

went and bought the efi relay ...the one by the battery ....$30 more dallors and it still wont start so with the key switch ...relay..and battery charger ...iam out $110 and it still wont start ...... anyone have any ideas that will cost alot of money and wont fix my problem

i didnt do any thing just charged the batt and then put the batt in and turned the key it started run up... i can here it running right now ..i order this ECU just to have a extra ..... mabe this ecu is fautly

Weel Ateast I Know That The Key Switch And Relay Are Golden ...it Still Wont Start ....i Unplugged The Batttery ...iam Going To Plug It Back In And See If Resetting The Ecu Works To Make It Run Again .......

OK I PUT THE BATTERY CABLES BACK ON AND TURNED THE KEY AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP..... I THINK IT HAVE NARROWED THE PROBLEM DOWN ......THE ECU HAS TO BE FAULTY ....THE WAY IT DOES IT ON TIME ONLY SHUTING IT OFF DURING WARM UP AND THEN WHEN THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REMOVED IT ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WORKS FINE ....IT ALL LEADS ME TO BELEAVE THAT THE ECU HAS SOME SORT OF PROBLEM ...

How about those battery cables? Did you replace those?
I've got this complete 1983 FI wiring harness that I've had for sale for a while with nobody interested. I would be willing to donate this to your cause. The only place to splice it in would be the main power wire by the battery where it enters the fender to go to the fuse panel.

I hate to rain on your parade Black, but the fact that it has done it with two different ECU's in the car makes me think it's not the ECU itself. What are the chances both ECU's have exactly the same fault and/or sypmtoms? What is more likely, is that both ECU's for some reason are getting a signal (or lack of a signal) that is "telling" them to shut off.

well i dont know what to think ...i know that this moring it acted like it was going to start and then the tach started jumpin up and down then nothing ...so i did the battery thing and still nothing .....i dont know what to check any more ...i have swaped in and out so many thing that i dont know .....afm ....BLEACH SEND IT TO ME ...... AND A THROTTLE POSTIONING SENSOR .......MABE THAT WILL FIX IT OTHER THAN THAT I HAVE KNOW CLUE .......TELL ME WITCH WIRES WILL SHUT THE ECU DOWN AND I WILL CHECK THEM ......IAM SO SICK OF IT ...I THOUGHT MAYBE ..JUST MAYBE I WOULD HAVE MY OWN CAR ON MY BRITHDAY IT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFOR

The best thing to do is first rule out all of the things that it can't be. It can't be the TPS, It can't be the IM, etc... take a couple deep breaths and go through in your mind all of the things that you know it can't be and you'll have a good idea where to go from there. Patience.

well it started to start i could see the tach moveing and i heard a sound from up front
......it was my HARMONIC BALNACER ...it broke ....i had been hearing a sound coming from up there for a long time ...it was a clicking sound....i thought it was my timeing cain but i was wrong .... happy birthday to me
does any one have one of these laying around that they will give up for cheap

mabe it came lose over time i have had it off three times sence i got the car .....
mabe last time i didnt get it tight ....i put the bolt back in to see if it messed the threds up..... it didn't but there is a lot of play ,like it could have just wiggle free
i will also need the crank tooth it sits in the end of the crank and keeps the HARMONIC BALNACER in place ...........mine is gone ...its is no where to be found what if it flew into the oil pan i dought it but what if ......

looks like msa has a crank pully key and they want .81 cents for it ...the pully how ever is going to cost $148.00 come on someone out there has to have these parts ...pm ME if you can help out .....dam it i want to drive my car so bad ....today is the frist day it rained in along long time ....it would have been drifting madness
