She Runs At Last, Oh Lord, She Runs At Last.

She runs at Last! Tach ain't workin(how do these hook up? and where?) 02 Sensor is bad(she would try to die when reved, dissconnected it. runs fine) Still has small backfires, but i think that's do to my timing is not yet set correctly. And now my windows won't go up(no power to them) I can not yet drive it cause i do not have the clutch hardline that goes from Master to Slave. But all in all. She runs. Runs strong. on all cylinders.

Fubar... your tach is powered by the neg wire on the coil. Make sure all coil wires are hooked up properly. Also... check all your fuses.

the coil wire's are hooked up like there supposed to be. Is that resistor part of the tach?

1000th Post. Yeh i have been fighting it for some time now. But as soon as i get a hard line for clutch. i can take her on the road. If she drives good. then Registration is free for me. gift from my father. Right now. i have to find out why my windows won't go up, put a new 02 Sensor in, and clutch hard line.

I know what the problem is with the key not starting it. She used to be an auto. So now there's no switch to tell it it's in park or nutrual. Problem is. What wires have to be connected to each other. The windows are fixed. Turns out, When I took out all the heat and A/C stuff under the dash. i took out a small black box behind the Dash-Firewall Wire junktion area. There is a sticker on it saying Fan Motor Timer, Don't let this fool you. it really controls the power windows.

Hey Fubar congrats on getting your Z running. I know it has been a hard uphill battle for you. But I give you mad props, on sticking with it, until the end. Now it sounds like you have a few more bugs to work out. And then you will be golden. If I was there, I could help you with the wiring, I have a nack for that sort of stuff. I went through my wiring, when I was putting my Z back together. The only thing that doesn't work in mine is the horn. But I have been too lazy to screw with it right now. Anyway you will get it there bro'. I have absolute faith in you man. Keep us updated, and good luck to you man.

As for the your problem with swapping auto to manual. I don't have a clue on that one. Hopefully somebody on here, can help you with that.

In the circuit diagram of the FSM it has pin 10 listed as 'A/T inhibitor switch or M/T neutral switch'. I would guess that's the one you're looking for, but the diagram doesn't show whether the other side is grounded or at a particular voltage.

It's on page 96 of the EF&EC section if you want to have a look.

I got an alarm gon off during idle. and i have no oil pressure at idle, if i rev. oil pressure comes up. let off, it goes to 0. I look under the oil cap(during idle) and it's spraying like it should. And she won't rev at all untill it is warmed up. I think that has to do with TPS not set, 02 Sensor bad, and timing still off.

I checked, and rechecked the Tach wire's. and it just won't work. Does the lil silver cylender thing have to do with tach?

the cylinder thing does, but its for radio interferance i believe. it does still transmit the signal tho, so best to hook it up. and are you using msd box? if you are then ya need the tach adapter

Like Shady said it is to inhibit AM radio interference.

There is a resistor inline with the negative coil wire to the tach. Make sure that resistor is hooked up and working properly. It's the L wire from the Tach and the LgW wire to the main instrument cluster. I dont remember exactly where the resistor is though. But it is along the drivers side of the car, probably under the dash or inside the fender. Just follow the coil wiring.

This is how i have everythign hooked up

The blue on coil is hooked up to - on coil. black on + But the cylinder thing as shown in Pic #2 is just mounted on it's mount, the the black wire from it goes to body. I don't know for sure if this is right though

Thats the condensor. It WONT affect your tach and it WONT affect your ignition system in any way. Whether it's hooked up or not. Its ONLY purpose is to reduce AM radio noise. You have your wiring correct to the coil though (L is - and BW is +). Have you checked to make sure the resistor is plugged in?

EDIT: I should also mention that the condensor is not inline with the ignition system. It is parallel. If you disconnect it the system will still work.

The condensor is the cylinder thing in your picture. Thats of no concern. To find the resistor (unless someone know where it is) just start following the wiring from the negative side of the coil. I should run into the drivers fender and then down under the dash. I get the feeling it's behind one of the plastic covers on the engine compartment. The one towards the firewall. If you disconnect the wiring from the coil you can pull the wiring through the fender to check for the resistor.

Have you checked the tach for a signal, or even power?

Rear End mount, Check
Clutch Hard Line, Check
Drive out of Drive way for the first time in 4 year's under it's own power, Priceless

She does not have the get up and go, that's probly due to the timing not set right yet, and eather, it's no power, or clutch is slipping, but she barely wants to go. And exhaust manafold glowing Bright Red(i think she is runing super rich)

But I drove my Z. Made about 6 passes pass my house pissin off all the neighber's. but oh well.
