Should I or shouldnt I
Okay guys im looking for some input here. Im thinking of selling my 83zx and getting a 240sx. Im weighing the pros and the cons of the deal, and its leaving me with a delema. If I keep my z ill be running a 20 year old vehicle and parts are becoming very hard to find. If I upgrade to a 240 I shouldnt have to be looking in pick and pull every time my car stops. Ive put a lot of work in my z and you all know you can't just let a car go after you put so much into it. But im looking if i keep my z to mod it with the msa 2 kit and some rims. If I get the 240 planning on doing a s15 conversion. So im stuck its like do i see my car and get another project or just finish my car and keep her. what do you all think. :hpydance:

The reason for going 240SX is easier modability, greater aftermarket availability, as well as modern amenities. You also get a backseat at a similar size/weight. The reason for staying with an old Z is sheer class.

due to Nissan using the same parts accross so many platforms back in the day, I don't find that its all that difficult to get new parts for the 280ZX. (A 240Z might be harder) Sometimes I have to order parts online and wait a little while, but the prices are still good.
For an older car, the 280ZX seems very luxurious and sporty. I say stick with the Z. Its a 6-cyl too, and you can go turbo easier and cheaper than an SR20DET would cost for a 240SX.

Well, if you need a daily driver, the 240sx would be more practical...
But if this is a 2nd car & is going to be your modded "specialty" car, you can't beat the 280zx... beautiful, reliable(for it's age), and it's a classic with more longterm value.
...Depends on what you need, I guess.
Practical / Economical versus Coolness / Value factor...

If you need something that's a bit newer, I'd say the 240sx is a good choice. It is harder to find aftermarket parts for any old Z nowadays as the demand isn't as great as the 240sx's. Even slapping on a new intake was a oneoff job for me after my intercooler installation. Performance parts will be cheaper for the 240's too, just visit 240sx.org. You'll find a million things being sold that I could only wish for on my ZXT. (intake manifolds, tubular stainless turbo headers, etc) I'll probably get flamed, but in all respects it will be easier to modify a 240sx than it will be for a Z, however since the Z will require more custom stuff you'll have that pride factor when you can say, "I did this, I designed it, fabbed it and it's different from everyone else's, etc."

keep the Z... with the 240SX youll see yourself coming and going everywhere you go... and you dont see too many 280ZXs out there anymore... yeah sure its getting harder to find parts for your car.. but thats how it is when you own a classic car.. and in my opinion.. the 280ZX is a lot more sexy than a 240SX even if you make it a S13.5

yah
Yah I know guysa 280zx does have its popularity as it not seen everywhere and a 240 would be lost in the shuffle. Yah and ive done the wait 2 weeks for a part bit and i have grown to my car. Thats why I ask you guys cause i know you all have the same love for your cars as I do for mine. For now Ill keep her and see about getting a msa kit for her. Well thanks all oh and by the way we finally got my nephews dang e brake on tonight for his z. :headspin:

If it's that much of a controvery, then your not a real Z fanatic, so just do whatever your heart tells you. Your qsking Z fanatics whether or not a Z is better to keep or to trade for an SX. What do you espect the answer to be? Z cars are the best!! L28 engines rule!! There's your answer!
Have fun either way!!

hmm
Carl I love my z only thing is that its just getting harder to replace even some of the most smallest parts on my car. The last time my car went down it went down for 3 months and thats cause hardly no one had my brake line, finally got it fixed and thank god everything is working fine. I love my z car but I don't know. For now ill keep her but hopefully ill be able to upgrade to a newer z or something.

I had a 240sx. I put 2" lower Eibach springs on it with brand new shocks and struts. I also put on some Rota rims and man, that thing handled like a damn F1 car with a good set of tires. I sold the car to a roomate and he crashed it, but all those things are still good if you would like them. I know he would be willing to part out anything you want and CHEAP too. I also put in a new radiator and some other misc things, let me know if you're interested.

This place has all those parts for your car. Lots of little hard to find parts and really good prices! Shipping is also very reasonable. If all else fails, order your parts and they're usually at your door in 5-10 days... not 3 months!
They even carry parts for my older Datsun truck, and they have some 240Z parts. Things like a factory parking brake cable might be hard to find, but common wear parts like brakes and clutch are no problem.

Not everybody has a 280ZX and if you have done a lot of work on the car I would keep it and only drive it a little. Trust me if you sell it later you will have second thoughts. I once had a 1969 Cheve hardtop (when all windows open nothing but air). It had a 327 engine with stock 350 head from the factory and it would hall but. My wife (short) didn't like it & I sold it. Total regrets. You can get the 240Z & still have your other Z. I am working on a 83 280ZX 2+2 for my 23 yr old son & yes it is hard to get parts, but that is the fun as it is like going on an Easter egg hunt. It wouldn't be as much fun if I could just go to the dealer & get every part as anybody can do that. Good luck.

I own an '83 280zx and a '92 240sx and I won't be getting rid of either.
They are both good platforms for tuning and neither one looks like most of the peanut shaped cars you see now a days.
I will admit that my 280zx seems a bit more classier though.
In the end its up to you,but I would just get both, they are both worth owning.
