Smell of Fuel

Smell of Fuel
Alright I seem to smell fuel every so often from the car. You can really smell it more when you get on the throttle. It's not the injectors, because I've checked them and they certainly aren't leaking, plus I've had my nose damn near against each of them and get no hint of gasoline. I've heard the charcoal canister's filter being older can lead to more of a scent, anyone know where I can get a newer filter? Also could the fuel filter be a cause of smell? It doesn't seem to cause a problem with the car running though.

gas fumes
also known as everyman's favorite cologne.. do the 280's have a fuel regulator, as do the z31s? mine smelled like gas until that thing was changed out, along with my injectors. ouch. i hope yours is easier.

my wife's been complaining that my Z smells like fuel since the day I bought it. I just say it smells like Datsun. If it's an excessively strong odor and you can't find a leak then it's most likely the charcoal canister. Make sure the vapor line to the canister isn't leaking and also make sure you dont have a leak from the gas cap or filler.

well it's not excessively strong, and I'm almost positive it doesn't have a leak simply because of when the injectors were leaking, and the garage was closed the scent from the leaking gas was ridiculously strong. It's not super potent or anything, but my guess is from the canister. I'll have to check the fuel filter hoses and what not. Like I said, is there anywhere to get a new canister or filter for the canister? It's not really a big deal, just a small concern of mine.

the dealer sells the filters for about $6.00 last time I checked. Pop out the canister and turn it over and you'll see the filter. Chances are it's going to be pretty nasty. WildmaN I think it was said he replaced the filter with cottonballs or something like that. Hey if it works thats a cheap alternative to making a trip to the dealer.

Hey, just be glad your filler hose isn't leaking... like mine! It would be nice if half of the gas coming from the pump actually made it into the tank! oh wait, we're supposed to be discussing YOUR problems...sorry

I seen a guy at a gas station filling up his tank on his Chevy Van (full size). The guy just set the nozzle in and set it to pump automatically while he went back in the station. I was pumping gas just behind him. As soon as he walked away the fuel started pouring out from under the van. I ran inside to tell him and he said he knows it's leaking. Eventually it would fill up I told him it was leaking pretty bad and I didn't think it was even going to the tank. He gets out there and hangs the pump up and gets in his van. He got out went back in the station and started threatening the cashier for ripping him off cause he pumped like $80.00 in fuel and his tank was still empty. He was arguing that the pump was not pumping and that he wanted a refund. I told the cashier he was full of **** and the guy looked at me and just walked out, got in his van and drove away.

On my way home from the Motorsport show, that happened to me. I just kept pumping gas until I reached about 15 gallons, when I realized my tank wasn't that big, then SPLASH out comes the gas from the spout... Of course it couldn't be my fault, so I went in and complained about the "faulty" pump too. But later that night I saw it leaking while I pumped. There's no way I should have been driving with fuel spilling like that. The fumes in the car made it an interesting drive too.
Oh yeah, this is Duowing's post, sorry

i checked my filter once. Flipped it upside down, Then i satarted woundering. Why can't i see a filter? there was a plastic thing on the bottom that looks like a funnel. So i just pulled the canister out my part's car. there was no funnel like thing on the bottom of it.
