Question Speedometer cable issue

Okay I wanted to start another thread. Because I haven't seen this in any of my other Z's. I took the speedo cable out of my '82 slicktop 5 speed. Well it is coated in gear oil. Which I know is not good. Anyway how do I fix this? I looked in my manuals. And I can't seem to figure out what this part would be called. I am sure it is an o-ring of some kind, but I can't find the part in either of my catalogs either. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also do you think that is why my speedo wasn't working? And is the speedo cable shot?

Oh I also wanted to mention, I only took off the upper cable, that attaches to the speedo itself. I haven't taken it off, the tranny yet. Okay any feedback is much appreciated.

if you disconnect both ends of the speedo cable you should be able to spin the inner cable easily by hand. If it wont spin then its seized. Could be rusted or frayed or both. Try putting some wd-40 down the cable to see if it'll free it up. If it does then you're gonna wanna lube that sucker up (dont try to use it with WD-40 as your lube). If not then you're gonna need to swap it out for another. But thats just a reason why your speedo might not be working. Not sure on where to get the seals for the cables though other than another from another cable
