Stereo stuff...
Where's that thread that has the wiring for the stereo? I can't seem to find it.
I just put in some new speakers and for some reason the left side is rather weak and the fader/balance is a little off kilter...which is weird, I didn't touch anything under the dash.
BTW--- 6x9 speakers will fit behind the seats (2 seater) quite nicely if you have some tin snips!!!

What are you using to drive the speakers?
Make sure you have the positive on the right connector on both speakers. Having them "out of phase" can affect the sound generation especially if they share an enclosure like the one behind the seats.

Aftermarket stereo + factory wires + aftermarket speakers = NO NO!! Left front and rear share the same ground wire and the right front and rear share the same ground wire...will make your head unit overheat, shut off, or blow up!! Run your own wires for the speakers!!!
Wires should be as follows - Front right speaker ( Positive wire = Blue w/red stripe - Negative wire = Blue w/Black stripe<-- right common ground wire)
Front Left speaker ( Positive wire = Yellow w/Red Stripe - Negative wire = Yellow w/Black stripe<-- left common ground wire)
Right Rear speaker ( Positive wire = White - Negative wire = Blue w/Black stripe)
Left Rear speaker ( Positive wire = Blue-green w/White stripe, but check the factory speaker connection to be sure - Negative wire = Yellow w/Black stripe)
EDIT: This is from the 1982 Service Manual

That's the info I was looking for! Thanks.
I've had this head unit in for about a decade. It's an old JVC KS-R650
The wires that connect to the speakers are:
Green = negative
White = positive
That's both sides. I haven't gone under the dash for a look, but everything was doing just fine before installing the new speakers.

I see, so you are diving an older zx then? Like my '79? I know my wires in the '79 are different than the '82s that I have/had.
The best way to fix everything is to just go ahead and remove the dash and run your own better wires from the radio...it will sound better and wont catch on fire.
