3.1 Stroker build up will allow more power to wheel's with a smaller lighter car. I don't know sqawt about turbo's. why i don't want to go that route, but a turbo motor full assembled(- turbo charger) is for sale, just got to pull, but i dought i will go that route

this topic is not about the 3.1 stroker build up. It's about the pro's and con's of droping my ZX, and going Z.

Unless your 280ZX is in really nice shape, I'd drop a 2+2 auto for a 2-seater 5-speed 280Z even with a stock engine. Forget the stroker, just do a factory turbo L28.

my ZX is in fair shape. usall amount of rust(under driver carpet, and under batt) I would have to replace the driver door, or spend countless hour's of body work to get it lookin decent. the Z is in better shape, with the new clutch slave cylinder, lines be bleed, air to tire's, she can drive home. just have to pull over everry few min's to let cool down. Cause a fan can't fit between the motor and radiator. I am just having to many problems trying to get my Z started, I am cosidering my option's.

in a ZX vs. Z. I'd have to say the ZX sounds like the overall better choice. As has been discussed, it's more aeordynamic, slightly longer wheelbase, a little sturdier and everthing, and would be a bit better for more power in my opinion. Although is the older Z is hands down better then it might just be worth it to with the older Z.

While your 2+2 is heavier than a 2 seater 280Z, the ZX's in general were not heavier than the 280Z's. They were actually lighter If I were you I'd toss the 2+2 and either get the Z or find a 2 seater ZX (I'd go more so for that second option). But it's your call

If you're going to go S30, make it a 240Z

A 260Z is a good find. Those are the rarest of the S30 cars. Swap in an L28 and sell the L26 to another 260Z guy

Only the 1979 280ZX with no options was the lighter car. The t-tops, power windows, locks, ect all added a couple hundred pounds but really they are not all that heavy.

anyway, I like both cars but a 2+2 slicktop is not the best looking Z in my opinion. I'd go with a 2-seater 280Z. You can make it look like a 240Z easy.
