Thoughts on this strange charging system problem?

I personally use dielectric grease on most older OEM electrical fittings, due to poor insulation from the elements, and have had good luck.
My Z, has my own custom hand made 12ga wiring and deutsche (www.deutschecd.com) connectors that are water proof. We use them on all CAT equipment, and I buy them from work. Not sure what they are like to get on the normal market. But the kit to crimp the fittings is around $600. Too bad really. They make excellent fittings.

The problem could be a lot of things. Very likely the alternator, however it can get expensive playing shade tree & using the hit & miss. Since the fuseable link is there to prevent a fire by blowing the circuit I would suggest spending the money by taking the car to a reputable foreign car electrical shop and find out exactly what is causing the problem rather than taking a chance you could have your "little baby catch fire", but then again that's me. Good luck and when you resolve the problem please let us know as that's how we get more education. I can work on most mechanical problems, but when it comes to electrical I leave it to the pros. Dan

As was said the problem for Heat Rave R was a faulty Regulator in the alternator. For me my problem was the terminals were rusted over and not conducting properly, cleaning them up solved that.
Some of those foreign car shops don't even want to touch our cars. Wiring is old, it's not easy to get new wiring harnesses etc. It's something that's a pain and can be too much of an issue. We're left on our own with alot of this, or we pay huge amounts for a shop to do it.

Every bit of money spent for a shop, is less money that you can spend on the fun parts. There is nothing complicated with our wiring, except for the crappy schematics given. It's hard to find a harness, and when you do, it's hard to trust it because it's used. I did all the wiring in my car. If I can do that, then everything else should be easy. I am no wiz.

At first especially with doing my Z31 swap, the wiring was all really foreign to me, and I really didn't understand about finding a positive or ignition controlled source, or how to look for one. Looking at the wiring diagrams is really confusing, but when you take a moment and study it, it's really not that hard to understand.

If you have a finger, and good enough eye sight to trace lines, you have it covered.
Basic understanding of amperage, voltage, and Ohm's law, really helps.
Like math. The most complicated circuitry is still based on the basics. Just takes a little more time to figure the complicated stuff out.
Google is the best teacher out there except for taking a class.
