throttle body help
Hi all, been lurking for a while, first post maybe covered somewhere else, sorry if it is. Bought an '81 280zx 2+2 for my dad's birthday, poor thing looks like it was scrapped together from a junk yard, finding all kinds of fun stuff that isn't hooked up, blocked off, ect. ect. so i'm fixing the mistakes of someone else. right, got almost everything plumbed together the way i think, for CA smog req. but on top of the throttle body are two ports,.. i can't figure out where these are s'post to go for the life of me, they are a little rusty/corroded so i'm assuming they had coolant going through them at some time. i may be completely wrong. anyone have a guess?

Welcome to ZDriver!
Those are the coolant ports. IN from thermostat housing, and OUT back to water pump inlet.
Please make sure you download the FSM for free from XenonS130 - S130 Reference

#1 comes from the thermo housing, 2 goes back to the water line on the pass side of the car. its beneathe the idle air control valve.... got everything hooked up, car runs nicly, but is starting to over heat. probably why the po didn't have a thermo in it...

^ That could be, but also check the fan clutch. And make sure the whole system is flushed real good. Including the radiator. These cars are notorious for overheating problems. Believe me, I have experienced it more than I can count. lol Good luck.

Try flushing the motor according to the FSM. I pulled the plug on the left rear of the block and had to literally chip out the crud and rust with a pick. Nasty stuff flushed out of it after that.
Mine runs cool as a cucumber now.
